Bollywood Stars Face Legal Action Over Misleading Ad

A consumer disputes redressal commission in Jaipur has taken significant action against Bollywood icons Shah Rukh Khan, Ajay Devgn, and Tiger Shroff. The commission issued notices to the stars regarding an allegedly misleading advertisement for Vimal Pan Masala, a product of JB Industries. The commission has scheduled a hearing for March 19, where all parties must appear or risk an ex parte decision.

Legal Proceedings Initiated

The District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, Jaipur II, has formally directed the involved parties to attend a hearing at 10 AM on March 19. The commission, chaired by Gyarsilal Meena, emphasized the importance of compliance, warning that failure to appear could lead to a decision made in their absence. The actors and JB Industries have been given 30 days to respond to the notice, which outlines the allegations against them.

This legal action follows a complaint from Jaipur-based advocate Yogendra Singh Badiyal. He claims that the advertisement for Vimal Pan Masala misleads consumers by asserting that it contains saffron, stating, “daane daane mein hai kesar ka dum” (every grain contains the power of saffron). Badiyal argues that this claim is false, as the product does not contain any saffron, potentially misleading the public about its health benefits.

Health Concerns Raised

Advocate Badiyal has expressed serious concerns regarding the health implications of the product. He argues that the misleading advertisement not only promotes a product that lacks beneficial ingredients but also poses significant health risks, including the potential for serious ailments such as cancer. Badiyal contends that the deceptive marketing practices are driving substantial profits for JB Industries while endangering consumer health.

In light of these allegations, Badiyal is calling for legal action against both the manufacturer and the endorsing actors. He has requested a ban on the product and its advertisement, along with a substantial fine for those involved in promoting what he describes as a harmful product. The case highlights the ongoing scrutiny of celebrity endorsements in the advertising industry, particularly regarding health-related claims.

No Response from Involved Parties

As of now, there has been no official comment from Shah Rukh Khan, Ajay Devgn, Tiger Shroff, or JB Industries regarding the allegations made against them. The outcome of the upcoming hearing will be closely watched, as it could set a precedent for how misleading advertisements are handled in the future, especially those involving high-profile endorsements.

As the situation develops, the public and industry stakeholders await further updates on this significant legal matter involving some of Bollywood’s biggest stars.
