Blueprint for Agricultural Revolution 4.0

The government is leveraging Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Internet of Things (IoT) technologies to enhance agricultural productivity, sustainability, and the livelihoods of farmers. These initiatives aim to tackle various challenges within the agricultural sector, providing farmers with innovative tools and resources. Key programs include an AI-powered chatbot for farmer assistance, a pest surveillance system, and advanced soil health assessments, all designed to improve crop management and yield.

AI-Powered Assistance for Farmers

One of the standout initiatives is the โ€˜Kisan e-Mitra,โ€™ a voice-based AI chatbot designed to support farmers with inquiries related to the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme. This innovative tool is capable of communicating in 11 regional languages, making it accessible to a diverse range of users. Currently, the chatbot handles over 20,000 queries daily, having successfully addressed more than 9.5 million questions since its launch. This initiative not only provides timely information but also empowers farmers by making government resources more accessible.

National Pest Surveillance System

To combat crop losses attributed to climate change, the government has introduced the National Pest Surveillance System. This system employs AI and Machine Learning to identify pest infestations in crops, allowing for prompt interventions that can safeguard crop health. Over 10,000 extension workers utilize this tool, which enables farmers to capture images of pests for analysis. The system currently supports 61 different crops and over 400 pest combinations, significantly aiding farmers in mitigating potential losses and enhancing their productivity.

Advanced Crop Monitoring Techniques

The government is also utilizing advanced technologies for crop health monitoring. By employing satellite imagery and analyzing weather and soil moisture data, farmers can better assess the health of rice and wheat crops. Additionally, AI and Machine Learning analytics are being used to evaluate crop health through field photographs, further enhancing pest identification and management strategies. These technological advancements are crucial for ensuring that farmers can make informed decisions regarding their crops, ultimately leading to improved yields.

Soil Health and Water Efficiency Initiatives

The Soil Health Card Program is another significant initiative aimed at assessing the fertility of soils in real-time. Farmers’ soil samples are collected and analyzed to determine 12 essential soil parameters. Based on these analyses, tailored fertilizer recommendations are provided through the Soil Health Card, promoting optimal crop growth. Furthermore, the government has been implementing the Per Drop More Crop (PDMC) scheme since 2015-16, which focuses on enhancing water-use efficiency through micro-irrigation systems. Financial assistance is available for farmers to install drip and sprinkler irrigation systems, helping to reduce water usage and lower overall farming costs. These initiatives collectively aim to boost agricultural productivity and improve the livelihoods of farmers across the country.
