Bhubaneshwar Hosts Grand Yoga Celebration

Bhubaneshwar came alive with the spirit of wellness as over 6,000 yoga enthusiasts gathered at Kalinga Stadium to participate in the Common Yoga Protocol. Union State Minister of Ayush, Shri Prataprao Jadhav, along with other dignitaries, planted medicinal plants to commemorate the occasion, distributing them to participants to foster a connection between health and nature.

Celebrating Yoga’s Global Impact

During the event, Union State Minister Shri Prataprao Jadhav highlighted the remarkable growth of yoga over the past decade, transforming it into a global phenomenon. He referenced Prime Minister Narendra Modi‘s address on March 30, 2025, which emphasized the importance of fitness in daily life and the significance of International Yoga Day (IDY). The Prime Minister introduced the theme for IDY 2025, โ€˜Yoga for One Earth, One Health,โ€™ which aims to promote holistic health worldwide. Jadhav stated, “Our health is inextricably linked to the health of our planet,” underscoring the importance of integrating environmental consciousness into wellness practices.

Launch of โ€˜Harit Yogaโ€™ Initiative

The โ€˜Harit Yogaโ€™ initiative, part of the 10 signature events leading up to IDY 2025, was officially launched by Minister Jadhav. He, along with other dignitaries, planted medicinal plants to symbolize the initiative’s commitment to nurturing both personal and planetary health. The minister aligned this initiative with Prime Minister Modiโ€™s vision of โ€˜Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam,โ€™ encouraging individuals to plant trees as a way to foster a healthier environment. This initiative aims to create a sustainable future by combining yoga practices with tree planting and clean-up drives.

Record Participation and Future Plans

The event also celebrated the success of the โ€˜Prakruti Parikshan Abhiyan,โ€™ which conducted health assessments for over 1.29 crore people, earning a place in the Guinness Book of World Records. Deputy Chief Minister of Odisha, Ms. Pravati Parida, emphasized the importance of yoga in adopting a healthy lifestyle and expressed gratitude to the Government of India for allowing Odisha to host the 75th-day countdown to IDY 2025. Member of Parliament, Sh. Sambit Patra, acknowledged yoga’s role as a soft power on the global stage, citing the unanimous adoption of June 21 as International Day of Yoga by 177 countries in 2014.

Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, Secretary of the Ministry of Ayush, praised the enthusiastic turnout, noting that the 11th edition of IDY is set to witness unprecedented global participation. The event concluded with a live demonstration of the Common Yoga Protocol by the Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga, showcasing various yoga practices aimed at enhancing flexibility, strength, and harmony.
