Scene 1: A Hidden Truth Overheard
Balwinder stands with Malishka in a quiet corner. He speaks in a firm voice, “Nobody here knows I am the real father of your baby. You told everyone that Rishi is responsible. They have no idea I am involved.” Malishka nods and looks worried. She whispers, “I only did this to protect myself. Rishi’s family believes him to be the father.” Balwinder shakes his head. “You should not keep pressuring me. I have no reason to worry, as long as you stay calm.” Unseen by them, Lakshmi approaches and accidentally hears their entire conversation. She stops in shock, trying not to make a sound. Her heart feels heavy because she once thought Rishi had betrayed her. Now, she realizes she was wrong. She stands there, thinking, “I misunderstood Rishi. He is not responsible for Malishka’s child.” Suddenly, they hear Rishi’s voice calling from another room, “Lakshmi, where are you?” Malishka panics and pushes Balwinder toward a nearby doorway. “Go hide!” she tells him, her eyes darting around. Balwinder slips away quickly, leaving Malishka alone. Lakshmi steps forward, trying to regain her composure, and hurries to meet Rishi.
Rishi greets Lakshmi, looking a bit uneasy. He says, “Shalu gave me some sour kadha to drink. It tasted very odd.” He rubs his stomach, half-smiling. Then, before Lakshmi can respond, he gently hugs her. Lakshmi feels tears forming in her eyes, thinking about what she just heard. She realizes Rishi never deceived her. I see it now.” Neelam narrows her eyes. “You keep saying things that make no sense. The truth is right in front of you.” Lakshmi shakes her head. “No, Malishka is hiding something,” she mutters. Neelam scoffs, “You sound confused. Learn to accept reality.” Lakshmi sighs. “One day, you will know what I have discovered. Then the ground under your feet will shift.” Neelam looks at Lakshmi as if she is speaking nonsense. Lakshmi walks away, determined to find Balwinder. She feels a strong need to clear Rishi’s name.
Scene 3: Regrets and Accusations
Lakshmi heads down a corridor, still determined to catch Balwinder. Her mind races with thoughts of Malishka’s lie. She whispers to herself, “How could I have ever doubted Rishi? Just open your eyes. Rishi and Malishka are together now. Accept it.” Lakshmi shakes her head firmly. “I do not blame Rishi anymore. My own doubts hurt him. Now I see I was wrong.”
Neelam crosses her arms. “So, you suddenly trust him again? That is foolish. You are only looking at things the way you want.” Lakshmi sighs, feeling tired of explaining. “I cannot tell you more right now. You will not believe me.” Neelam rolls her eyes. “You sound like you are drunk, talking about a truth that no one sees.” Lakshmi tries to stay calm. She remembers the hurt on Rishi’s face when she doubted him. She also recalls Malishka’s smug attitude. That memory fuels her desire to protect Rishi’s innocence. Finally, Lakshmi ends the conversation by saying, “Neelam, I respect you. Suddenly, someone shouts behind them. “Neelam fell!” People rush to where Neelam tripped. Rishi quickly turns away from chasing Lakshmi to help his mother. He and Ayush hurry to check on her. Neelam appears to be shaken but not badly hurt. She manages to stand up with assistance, and others gather around her. In the confusion, Lakshmi has already stepped out, missing the commotion behind her. Rishi looks over his shoulder, torn between following Lakshmi and staying to help Neelam. He decides to make sure his mother is okay first. “Are you all right?” he asks gently. Neelam nods slowly. “I just lost my balance,” she mutters. As soon as Neelam regains her footing, Rishi tells Ayush, “I must find Lakshmi now.” Ayush agrees to stay with Neelam. Rishi rushes out, hoping Lakshmi is still nearby.
Scene 5: A Surprise for Lakshmi
Rishi finally finds Lakshmi in a quiet room down the hall. He calls out to her, “Lakshmi, wait!” She pauses, turning around. She looks anxious, remembering all that has happened tonight. Rishi approaches her gently, taking a moment to catch his breath. Suddenly, Neelam’s voice rings through the hallway as others help her walk. Rishi and Lakshmi glance back, but Neelam seems occupied with her helpers. Lakshmi reaches for the light switch, but Rishi stops her. “Not yet,” he whispers. “I changed my clothes. Do I look okay?” Lakshmi blinks in confusion. “I cannot see you,” she says. Rishi chuckles softly, then flips on the lights. Lakshmi gasps softly at the sight. The room is decorated with streamers and flowers. Rishi stands there in a fresh outfit. He looks both nervous and hopeful. “I did this for you. I wanted to make things special,” he explains. Lakshmi steps inside, her eyes scanning the decorations. She is touched by his effort.
Rishi lowers the volume on a small music player. He says, “I am so sorry about earlier. I never wanted to hurt you by dancing with Malishka.” Lakshmi tries to respond, “Actually, I have something important to tell—” but Rishi cuts her off with a gentle wave of his hand. “First, let me fix my mistake.” He turns up the music slightly, extending his hand. “Will you dance with me?” he asks, his voice steady. Then, he turns back to her and says, “Lakshmi, you are my heart. You are my soul. Please forgive me for causing you pain.” Lakshmi feels tears gathering in her eyes. She can see his sincerity. She tries to speak. “Rishi, you have no idea how much your words mean to me. I learned something tonight…” But before she finishes, he pulls her into a tight hug.
He whispers, “I am so sorry for everything. I only want you to trust me. I promise I will never hide anything from you again.” Lakshmi closes her eyes and rests against him. She feels relief that he is genuine. She also feels a pang of sadness because he does not know the full truth about Malishka. For a moment, they just hold each other. Lakshmi’s tears wet Rishi’s shirt, but he does not seem to care. He gently strokes her hair, repeating, “Forgive me.
