BCCI to Pay Tribute to Indian Armed Forces at IPL 2025 Finale

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced that the closing ceremony of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 will honor India’s armed forces. Scheduled for June 3 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, the ceremony will last approximately 45 minutes and aims to pay tribute to the bravery exhibited during Operation Sindoor. BCCI officials have confirmed that military personnel will be recognized during the event, which will feature patriotic music and performances by military bands.
The BCCI has made arrangements to ensure the presence of senior armed forces officials at the closing ceremony. Specific stands in the stadium will be designated for armed forces personnel, reinforcing the connection between the tournament and the nation’s heroes. BCCI spokesperson Saikia emphasized that while cricket is a beloved sport, the security and integrity of the nation take precedence. The ceremony is set to be a solemn occasion, highlighting the courage and selfless service of those who protect the country.
In light of recent events, the IPL faced a suspension due to escalating tensions between India and Pakistan. This followed a tragic terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir, prompting India to launch Operation Sindoor. The tournament, initially halted, resumed on May 17 after a ceasefire agreement was reached. Upon the IPL’s resumption, players showed their respect for the armed forces by singing the national anthem at various venues, and messages expressing gratitude were displayed on giant screens.
Looking ahead, the closing ceremony will not only feature military bands but is also expected to include performances by well-known singers, creating an evening of celebration and remembrance. This dedication to the armed forces mirrors previous tributes made by the BCCI, such as the invitation extended to a military band during the IPL’s opening ceremony in 2019. Additionally, the board has previously committed significant funds to support the welfare of the armed forces, underlining its commitment to acknowledging the sacrifices made by those in service.
