Ashes Ticket Sales Surge to Record-Breaking Heights
Cricket Australia has made headlines by shattering single-day ticket sales records for the 2025-26 Men’s Ashes series. More than 220,000 tickets were sold on the first day of the pre-sale, nearly doubling the previous record of 111,741 tickets from the 2017-18 summer. This remarkable achievement occurred within hours of the priority pre-sale opening, fueled by a high demand for the Boxing Day match at the Melbourne Cricket Ground and the initial days of the day-night Ashes Test at the Gabba.
Historic Ticket Sales
The unprecedented ticket sales for the upcoming Ashes series highlight the immense popularity of cricket in Australia. The previous record of 111,741 tickets sold in a single day was set during the 2017-18 summer, but the new figure of over 220,000 reflects the excitement surrounding the 2025-26 season. Notably, more than 120,000 tickets were purchased before the sales launched in New South Wales and Western Australia, with most of these tickets allocated for the Ashes Tests.
Currently, only single tickets remain for the opening two days of the Gabba’s day-night Test, while over 55,000 seats have already been secured for the much-anticipated Boxing Day match. Despite a technical glitch affecting sales in Western Australia for some matches, the overall ticket sales still surpassed 220,000, a testament to the strong interest from fans.
Fan Excitement and Future Sales
Todd Greenberg, the CEO of Cricket Australia, expressed his enthusiasm regarding the record ticket sales. He noted that the overwhelming demand signals the excitement fans have for the upcoming international season. Greenberg urged those who have yet to purchase tickets to act quickly, as they are expected to sell out soon. The priority pre-sale period will continue until midnight AEST on June 12, with general ticket sales launching on June 13.
As the tickets for matches in the Australian Capital Territory, Queensland, and South Australia became available, the interest remained high throughout the day. The sales strategy allowed fans to register for priority access, ensuring that those eager to attend the matches had the opportunity to secure their tickets.
Upcoming Matches and Tours
The 2025-26 Ashes series will be particularly significant as it includes matches in every state and territory of Australia for the first time. In addition to the Ashes, the season will feature white-ball matches against South Africa and India. India’s tour will consist of an extensive eight-game series across eight cities during October and November.
On the other hand, South Africa’s schedule will include three ODIs and three T20Is in northern Australia, marking a notable return of international cricket to Darwin after 17 years. The Proteas will also play in Cairns and Mackay in August, adding further excitement to the cricket season.
Anticipation for Overseas Attendance
This upcoming Ashes series is expected to attract significant overseas attendance, especially in contrast to the previous series held in 2021-22, which saw restrictions due to Covid-19. The return of international fans will enhance the atmosphere and excitement of the matches, making the 2025-26 season one of the most anticipated events in Australian cricket history. With the record-breaking ticket sales and the promising schedule ahead, the cricket community is gearing up for a spectacular summer filled with thrilling matches and unforgettable moments.
