Aryan Sharma: From Virat Kohli Fan to Aspiring Australian Cricketer in 2025

Once an 11-year-old fan of Virat Kohli, Aryan Sharma has fulfilled his childhood dream by being selected for Australia’s U19 World Cup squad. Now 18, Aryan’s journey from crafting a placard declaring his aspirations to being named among the 15 players representing Australia in the ICC U-19 Cricket World Cup is a testament to his dedication. The tournament is set to take place in Namibia and Zimbabwe from January 15 to February 6, where Australia will compete in Group A against Ireland, Japan, and Sri Lanka.

Aryan’s Early Inspiration and Journey

Raman Sharma recalls a memorable Christmas in 2018 when his son Aryan, then just 11 years old, created a placard for his idol, Virat Kohli, ahead of the Boxing Day Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. The placard boldly stated, “Virat, you’re my inspiration. Watch me play for Australia in 2025.” Seven years later, Aryan’s dream has come true as he prepares to represent Australia in the upcoming U19 World Cup. Raman expressed his pride, noting how Aryan’s prediction has become a reality. The emotional father keeps the placard on his desk as a reminder of his son’s journey.

Aryan’s love for cricket began at a young age, inspired by the 2011 ODI World Cup victory led by MS Dhoni. Raman, who moved to Australia in 2005, shared that Aryan developed his passion for the sport at just six years old. He quickly progressed through the ranks, playing against older children, which helped hone his skills. Aryan’s commitment to cricket has been unwavering, and his family has supported him through various challenges, including balancing training and schooling.

Family Support and Sacrifices

The Sharma family has faced numerous challenges while supporting Aryan’s cricketing ambitions. Raman, a migration consultant, moved to Australia alone and later brought his family over. He described the difficulties of adapting to a new country and the sacrifices made to ensure Aryan could pursue his passion. The family often juggled their schedules, with Aryan training and attending school while his parents managed their work and responsibilities.

Raman reminisced about the times they would have to eat meals in the car while rushing between training sessions and school. Despite the challenges, the family remained committed to Aryan’s cricket journey. Raman expressed gratitude for the support from Cricket Victoria and Aryan’s coach, Bagheshwar Bist, who has played a significant role in Aryan’s development as a cricketer.

Aryan’s Development and Future Aspirations

Aryan’s cricketing journey has been marked by significant milestones, including his recent selection for the U19 World Cup. His father highlighted the importance of hard work and dedication in achieving success. Raman emphasized the need for Aryan to stay humble and focused as he embarks on this new chapter in his cricket career.

The Sharma family recently traveled to India, where Aryan trained and played matches in challenging conditions. Despite the heat, Raman noted that the experience helped Aryan and his teammates grow as cricketers. The family remains thankful for the opportunities Aryan has received and the support from coaches and cricket organizations that have recognized his talent.
