Army Chief Visits Nepal
General Upendra Dwivedi, Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), embarked on a visit to Nepal from 20th to 24th November 2024, representing a significant step in further strengthening the defense cooperation between India and Nepal.
On the 20th of November 2024, General Upendra Dwivedi had an opportunity to interact with Mr. Naveen Srivastava, the Indian Ambassador to Nepal. Following this, he engaged in an informal discussion with General Ashok Raj Sigdel, Chief of the Army Staff, Nepali Army at Shashi Bhawan.
Moving ahead to the 21st of November 2024, the COAS was given a Guard of Honour at the Nepali Army Headquarters. He also had an interaction with the COAS, Nepali Army. In addition, General Upendra Dwivedi was briefed by the Director General Military Operations (DGMO), Nepali Army on matters of common interest. Later in the day, he attended the Investiture Ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhawan, Shital Niwas. It is a unique tradition between the Indian Army and the Nepali Army, where he was bestowed with the Honorary Rank of General of the Nepali Army by the Right Honorable President of Nepal. The COAS also called on the Right Honorable President of Nepal and held talks to further enhance the defense partnership between India and Nepal. In the evening, he attended a Banquet hosted by the COAS, Nepali Army.
Moving forward to the 22nd of November 2024, the COAS addressed the student officers of the Nepali Army Command and Staff Course at Shivapuri. During the course of the day, General Upendra Dwivedi called on Mr. K P Sharma Oli, the Honorable Prime Minister, and Mr. Manbir Rai, the Honorable Defense Minister of Nepal. They engaged in talks concerning matters of mutual interest.
On the 23rd of November 2024, General Upendra Dwivedi attended an Ex-Servicemen Rally at Pokhara. During this event, the COAS felicitated Veer Naris and Gallantry Awardees. He also had the opportunity to interact with Indian Army veterans who reside in Nepal in large numbers. Additionally, the COAS visited the Western Division Headquarters, Nepali Army, where he received a briefing in the presence of the General Officer Commanding, Western Division, Nepali Army. In the evening, a Banquet was hosted by the COAS for dignitaries in Kathmandu. The COAS returned to India on the 24th of November 2024.
