Android 16 Beta 4 Update Adjusts Time Font

Google has rolled out the Android 16 Beta 4 update, which was released last Thursday. While the official changelog primarily highlights bug fixes for Pixel devices, users have reported subtle changes to the user interface (UI) as well. Notably, the update modifies the font of the clock displayed in the status bar, along with introducing new color options for the always-on display (AOD) clocks.
Modifications to the Status Bar Clock
The Android 16 Beta 4 update has made noticeable tweaks to the clock font in the status bar of Pixel devices, particularly on the Pixel 9. According to reports from 9to5Google, the clock, located in the top-left corner of the screen, now features a slightly altered font. Users have observed wider spacing between the numbers “1” and “2,” while the “0” appears narrower compared to the font used in the previous beta version. Additionally, the updated font seems to be marginally taller than before.
Despite these changes to the clock font, Google has not modified the font or spacing for the battery icon, which remains in the top-right corner of the screen. Other status bar icons have also not undergone any changes, indicating that the update primarily focuses on the clock’s appearance.
New Color Options for Always-On Display
In addition to the font adjustments, the Android 16 Beta 4 update introduces several new color options for the always-on display clocks. Previously, the thin outlines surrounding the clocks were exclusively white. With this update, users can now enjoy Dynamic Color options for both the full-screen and top-left corner versions of the AOD clocks. This enhancement allows for a more personalized and visually appealing experience for Pixel users.
The introduction of these new colors aims to enhance the aesthetic appeal of the always-on display feature, providing users with more customization options to suit their preferences.
Future Updates and Release Timeline
As the Android 16 Beta 4 update rolls out, it remains uncertain whether these subtle changes will be included in the final public release. Android 16 achieved platform stability back in March, enabling developers to start integrating new features into their applications. The next major update, which will succeed Android 15, is anticipated to be released in June 2025.
Google has announced plans for a significant SDK release in the second quarter of 2025, which will include behavioral changes, new APIs, and features. Additionally, a minor release featuring API changes and enhancements is expected in the fourth quarter of 2025. As the Android ecosystem continues to evolve, users can look forward to more updates and improvements in the coming years.
