Amit Shah launches various in Tripura

Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation, Shri Amit Shah, recently launched several initiatives aimed at bolstering the cooperative sector in Tripura. This significant event took place in the presence of Tripura’s Chief Minister, Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha, and Dr. Ashish Kumar Bhutani, Secretary of the Ministry of Cooperation, among other dignitaries. The initiatives are designed to enhance the welfare of farmers and the economically disadvantaged in the state, aligning with the broader goals of the Indian government.

Emphasis on Cooperative Growth

In his address, Amit Shah emphasized the importance of cooperatives under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He stated that the Ministry of Cooperation was established with the vision of “Sahkar Se Samriddhi,” which translates to prosperity through cooperation. Shah highlighted the remarkable progress of India’s economy, which has risen from the 11th to the 5th position globally. He expressed confidence that by 2027, India would secure the 3rd position, aiming for the participation of all 1.4 billion citizens in this growth journey. He stressed that cooperation is essential for achieving prosperity, happiness, education, and healthcare for every family in the country.

Shah pointed out that there are over 800,000 cooperatives across India, engaging more than 350 million people. These cooperatives span various sectors, including banking, agricultural financing, medical support, and fertilizer distribution. Notable examples like Amul and IFFCO illustrate the success of cooperatives in connecting people and enhancing their livelihoods. The government’s commitment to strengthening this sector is evident in the initiatives launched in Tripura.

New Initiatives for Farmers

During the event, Amit Shah announced several new initiatives aimed at improving the lives of farmers in Tripura. One of the key initiatives is the launch of Mobile Rural Marts through NABARD. These marts will provide essential food items such as pulses, rice, and wheat flour at affordable prices in five districts under the India brand. Additionally, 50 primary cooperative societies of the Tripura State Cooperative Bank have been equipped with micro ATMs to enhance financial accessibility for local communities.

The inauguration of cooperative petrol pumps and a consumer store in Dhalai district marks another step towards improving local infrastructure. Furthermore, eight initiatives were introduced to boost cooperation in the region. These include the establishment of a Smart Training Center by the Tripura State Cooperative Union, the distribution of mini seed kits to 500 farmers through the National Cooperative Consumers’ Federation (NCCF), and a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the National Cooperative Organics Limited (NCOL) and the Tripura State Organic Farming Development Agency.

Promoting Organic Farming

Amit Shah also addressed the potential of organic farming in Tripura, a state known for producing over 70% organic products. However, many of these products lack certification. He urged farmers to connect with NCOL through cooperative institutions to obtain the necessary certifications for their land and products. Shah assured that within two to three years, NCOL could help farmers secure at least a 30% higher price for their organic produce.

He emphasized that organic farming not only enriches the soil but also promotes environmental health and protects against diseases. By adopting organic practices, farmers can enhance their prosperity while contributing to sustainable agriculture. The central government has established three national-level multipurpose cooperative societies to facilitate quality seed provision, market organic products, and connect farmers to global markets. Over 35 cooperative institutions from Tripura have already applied for membership in these societies, indicating a strong interest in organic farming.

Achievements and Future Plans

Shah highlighted the achievements made in the cooperative sector since his party took office in Tripura in 2018. He noted that while previous governments had established cooperatives, they often mismanaged them, leading to losses. However, under the current administration, cooperatives in Tripura have started to earn profits, and their financial health is improving.

The Union Minister assured that farmers in Tripura can leverage cooperatives for their prosperity and that the central government is committed to supporting them. He announced plans for the construction of 2,000 metric ton capacity warehouses on a cooperative basis throughout the state, ensuring that no tehsil will lack a storage facility. Shah also mentioned that Tripura has made significant progress in implementing 41 out of 57 initiatives taken by the Ministry of Cooperation, marking a major achievement for the state.

The recent initiatives launched by Amit Shah are set to transform the cooperative landscape in Tripura. By focusing on cooperation, organic farming, and infrastructure development, the government aims to uplift farmers and enhance the overall economic well-being of the state.
