Amit Shah Highlights Role of Libraries and Inaugurates Waste-to-Energy Plant in Gujarat
Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation, Shri Amit Shah today engaged with librarians from trust-run and government libraries within the Gandhinagar Lok Sabha constituency, emphasizing the essential role libraries play in shaping a nation’s future. He also inaugurated a waste-to-energy plant in Ahmedabad, showcasing the government’s commitment to environmental sustainability and effective waste management.
Libraries as Pillars of National Development
In a recent social media post, Shri Amit Shah stated, “Libraries play an important role in building the future of any country,” underscoring the impact of libraries on education, awareness, and societal development. During his interaction, he commended the dedication of librarians in Gandhinagar, who foster strong connections with readers and are instrumental in cultivating a love for books within the community. According to Shri Shah, these efforts are projected to increase readership in local libraries by 30% in the near future.
Donation of Books and Recommendations for Enhanced Access
To support this vision, Shri Amit Shah donated books worth ₹2 lakh to each library in his constituency. He also suggested ways to make libraries more accessible and appealing to the public, including the use of online heritage books and specialized software to analyze reader preferences. This technology, he explained, would allow libraries to better align their collections with the interests of their patrons, thereby expanding readership and promoting a reading culture within the community.
Inauguration of Waste-to-Energy Plant in Ahmedabad
In a separate event, Shri Amit Shah inaugurated a 15 MW waste-to-energy plant near Piplaj village in Ahmedabad, established by Jindal Urban Waste Management. Sharing the development on social media, he highlighted the plant’s role in revolutionizing waste management and energy production for the city of Ahmedabad.
Details of the Waste-to-Energy Project
The plant, built at a cost of ₹375 crore, can process 1,000 metric tonnes of waste per day, converting it into electricity. The facility aims to tackle the growing waste management challenges in Ahmedabad, while also generating a sustainable energy source to support the city’s power needs.
Shri Amit Shah remarked that this plant will significantly bolster Ahmedabad’s waste management infrastructure and contribute to the city’s sustainability goals, offering a model of efficient resource management that other cities can emulate.
