H.E. Shri Sanjay Kumar Jha responded by highlighting that the Pahalgam attack was a malicious attempt to disrupt peace and development in Jammu and Kashmir. He noted that Indiaโs response, termed Operation Sindoor, was executed with precision and aimed at being proportionate and non-escalatory. This approach reflects India’s strategy of addressing terrorism while maintaining regional stability.
Call for International Cooperation
During the discussions, Shri Sanjay Kumar Jha reiterated India’s zero-tolerance policy towards terrorism, asserting that there is no distinction between terrorists and their supporters. He urged Japan to lend its support in the fight against terrorism, specifically referencing the UN Security Council’s Press Statement from April 25, 2025. This statement called for accountability for those responsible for terrorist acts, including their financiers and sponsors.
Mr. Iwaya reaffirmed Japan’s support for India’s anti-terrorism efforts and commended the restraint shown by India in the aftermath of the attack. He echoed the need to hold perpetrators accountable, reinforcing the collaborative spirit between the two nations in addressing this global challenge.
Meetings with Japanese Leaders
The delegation’s itinerary included meetings with prominent Japanese leaders, including H.E. Mr. Yoshihide Suga, former Prime Minister and current Vice President of the Liberal Democratic Party, and H.E. Mr. Takashi Endo, Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on National Security.
