Advance Bookings Still Pending for Multiple Single Screen Theaters

The highly anticipated film “Raid 2,” starring Ajay Devgn, is set to hit theaters on May 1, with many shows already nearing full capacity. However, advance bookings at several single-screen theaters remain unavailable due to complications in scheduling shows for multiple releases, including the Hollywood film “Thunderbolts” and two Marathi films. As the release date approaches, the situation is evolving, with theaters working to balance the demand for these films.

Complex Show Scheduling

As “Raid 2” prepares for its release, the film faces competition from several other titles debuting on the same day. Alongside “Raid 2,” the Hollywood blockbuster “Thunderbolts” and two Marathi films, “Gulkand” and “Ata Thambaycha Naay,” are also set to premiere. This coincides with Maharashtra Day, a strategic time for local releases. A trade source indicated that the presence of multiple films has created a complex scheduling scenario, particularly for theaters that typically cater to Marathi-speaking audiences. Distributors are working diligently to ensure that each film receives adequate screen time, but the challenge lies in balancing the showtimes without compromising any title’s visibility.

Advance Booking Delays

As of April 30, many single-screen theaters in Mumbai had not yet opened advance bookings for “Raid 2.” Notable venues such as Citylight Mahim, Gold Dadar, and MovieMax Andheri were among those still finalizing their schedules. In contrast, some theaters like Mukta A2 Roxy Opera House are fully committed to showing “Raid 2,” while others, like Inox Nakshatra Dadar, have opted for a mixed schedule that includes shows for “Thunderbolts,” “Gulkand,” and “Ata Thambaycha Naay.” This varied approach reflects the theaters’ attempts to cater to local demographics and audience preferences.

Strategic Planning by Theaters

The decision-making process for showtimes is heavily influenced by the local population’s preferences. For instance, Inox Dadar’s strategy of allocating three shows to “Raid 2” and one each to the competing films aligns with the area’s predominantly Marathi-speaking audience. Conversely, PVR Le Reve Bandra has chosen to prioritize “Raid 2” with four shows, reflecting the different audience dynamics in various neighborhoods. Theaters are expected to finalize their schedules by the evening of April 30, ensuring that all films can be showcased appropriately.

Looking Ahead

As the release date approaches, the anticipation for “Raid 2” continues to build. The film’s distributors, Panorama Studios, are optimistic about its performance, given its status as the week’s major release. However, the competition from “Thunderbolts” and the Marathi films adds an intriguing layer to the box office landscape. With theaters working to resolve scheduling conflicts, audiences can expect a diverse range of films to choose from in the coming days.
