Aatmanirbhar Bharat: MoD & HAL sign Rs 458 crore contract for two upgraded Dornier Aircraft for Indian Coast Guard

The Ministry of Defense signed, in New Delhi on 07 July 2023, a contract with Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) for the purchase of two Dornier Aircraft for Indian Coast Guard (ICG) along with the associated technical support package at an overall cost of Rs 458.87 crores. The aircraft will be purchased in the Buy (Indian) category.

The aircraft will be equipped with a set of advanced equipment, namely glass cockpit, maritime patrol radar, electro-optical infrared device, mission management system, etc. The addition will further enhance the aerial surveillance capability of the maritime areas of responsibility of the ICG.

The Dornier aircraft are manufactured in-house at HAL (Transport Aircraft Division), Kanpur and will contribute significantly to the achievement of Aatmanirbharta in defence, in consonance with the Government’s ‘Make in India’ initiative.
