UN Budget Discussions Focus on Disarmament and Investigations
The United Nations’ Fifth Committee, which handles administrative and budgetary matters, convened to discuss the implications of the 2025 budget. The committee is reviewing five significant outputs from the First Committee, which focuses on disarmament and international security. Funding for Disarmament Initiatives

A resolution approved by the Third Committee seeks to allocate $309,700 to ensure the institute’s operations continue smoothly in 2025. This funding is vital for the institute’s ongoing efforts to address crime prevention and rehabilitation in Africa, highlighting the UN’s commitment to social and humanitarian issues.
Furthermore, the committee is also focused on maintaining the investigation into the tragic death of Dag Hammarskjöld. The proposed budget includes $77,200 to support this investigation, which has been ongoing for several years. The circumstances surrounding Hammarskjöld’s death remain a significant concern for the UN, and continued funding is essential to uncover the truth and provide closure to the families involved.
