Shri Dharmendra Pradhan inaugurates ICSSR Research
The Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR) has launched a new Research Internship Programme aimed at enhancing social and human sciences research in India. Union Minister for Education, Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, inaugurated the program in New Delhi. During the event, he also distributed appointment letters to the selected interns and awarded prizes to winners of the National Argumentative Essay Writing Competition. This initiative is expected to play a crucial role in developing skilled researchers who can contribute to various fields, including policy research and social innovation.
Importance of the Internship Programme
Shri Pradhan emphasized the significance of the ICSSR Research Internship Programme. He stated that it offers a unique opportunity for postgraduate students in social sciences. The program aims to strengthen research in this field, which is vital for social progress and economic growth. As technology continues to evolve, particularly with advancements in artificial intelligence, social science research will be essential in ensuring that these changes benefit society.
The Minister pointed out that the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 recognizes the need for quality social science research. This internship program is a step toward fostering individual growth and creating a skilled workforce capable of addressing contemporary challenges. By aligning education with research skills, the program prepares young scholars for the changing job market.
Bridging the Gap Between Education and Employability
The ICSSR Internship Programme is designed to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and employability skills. It focuses on equipping interns with essential research skills, such as data collection, experimentation, and report presentation. Participants will gain hands-on experience by working with experienced mentors from universities, research think tanks, and industry.
This multidisciplinary program will include candidates from various domains, such as Sociology, Public Health, and International Relations. The aim is to create a pool of skilled researchers who can contribute to national development. The internship will also involve workshops on skills required for research studies related to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) outlined by the United Nations.
A Positive Response and Future Prospects
The advertisement for the Research Internship Programme attracted significant interest, receiving over 3,600 applications. After a rigorous selection process, ICSSR has chosen 40 candidates from diverse backgrounds across the nation. This selection reflects the program’s commitment to inclusivity and diversity.
The internship will not only focus on research skills but also on fostering a deeper understanding of India’s civilizational ethos. Shri Pradhan expressed confidence that this initiative will contribute to the future of social science research in India. By integrating modern education with traditional knowledge, the program aims to prepare young social scientists for the challenges of the future.
