Defence journalists Shiv Aroor and Rahul Singh have officially ended their association with Salman Khan’s upcoming film, Maatrubhumi, previously titled Battle of Galwan. The co-authors of the India’s Most Fearless book series made this announcement in a joint statement on November 5. They noted that the film has evolved beyond the narrative of the 2020 Galwan Valley clash that initially brought them on board.
Statement on Departur
In their statement, Aroor and Singh expressed their gratitude towards the film’s lead actor, Salman Khan, director Apoorva Lakhia, and the entire team. They said, “Rahul Singh and I (Shiv Aroor) would like to share that our association with Maatrubhumi (earlier titled Battle of Galwan) has come to a close. As the film has evolved, it has moved beyond the account of the Galwan incident in our India’s Most Fearless series that first brought us on board.”
The journalists emphasized their respect for the team, adding, “We are grateful to Salman Khan, Apoorva Lakhia and the entire team for their warmth and the opportunity to be part of this journey. We hold them in the highest regard and wish them the very best as they bring their vision to the screen. Our heartfelt wishes for the film’s success will always be with them.” Aroor shared this message on social media, tagging the film’s key figures.
Background of the Project
Aroor and Singh’s involvement with Maatrubhumi began with a chapter in India’s Most Fearless 3, published in 2022. This chapter detailed the June 2020 clash between Indian and Chinese troops in the Galwan Valley. In 2023, director Apoorva Lakhia acquired the rights to this chapter, with Aroor also credited for the film’s story alongside Suresh Nair.
The film portrays the tragic hand-to-hand confrontation in which Colonel Bikumalla Santosh Babu, played by Salman Khan, and 19 other Indian soldiers lost their lives. As the film gears up for its next promotional phase, it has recently received a U/A 16+ certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification for its 4-minute-and-43-second trailer, which is set to be unveiled on November 6.
Release Date Uncertainty
While the trailer’s release is imminent, the theatrical release date for Maatrubhumi remains unconfirmed. Reports suggest that November 20 and December 11 are being considered as potential release dates. The film’s development continues as it prepares to engage audiences with its upcoming promotional efforts.
