New Science and Technology Websites Launched to Enhance Public Access
In a significant move towards citizen-first governance, Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh unveiled the revamped official websites of the Department of Science and Technology (DST) today. The new platforms are designed to make scientific information more accessible and user-friendly for citizens across India, reflecting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision.
Emphasizing the initiative’s core principle of “Science by the People, Science for the People,” Dr. Singh highlighted that these websites aim to provide science that is readily available and affordable. The streamlined digital platforms allow users to easily find information relevant to their needs, fostering the flow of technology across various scientific fields and industries.
Comprehensive Features for Diverse Users
The newly launched websites, www.dst.gov.in and www.most.gov.in, were developed adhering to the Digital Brand Identity Manual (DBIM) 3.0 and the Guidelines for Indian Government Websites and Apps (GIGW) 3.0. In attendance at the launch were Prof. Umesh V. Waghmare, Secretary of the DST, along with senior officials and developers involved in the project.
Dr. Singh noted that the platforms are set to benefit a wide range of users including students, researchers, innovators, and media professionals. They will provide single-window access to various DST schemes, grants, fellowships, and scientific opportunities. The redesigned websites feature improved information architecture, allowing users to navigate eligibility criteria, application guidelines, and essential notifications with ease.
A User-Friendly Experience
The websites are structured into key sections such as About DST, services, opportunities, and news updates. A centralized document repository on the site ensures easy access to guidelines, policy documents, and administrative forms, making the user experience more efficient.
The sites also promote international collaboration in science and technology, including dedicated sections for bilateral and multilateral cooperation. Visitors will find reorganized listings of DST divisions and contact details for relevant officers, enhancing overall navigation.
Multilingual Access and Universal Features
A standout feature of the revamped websites is the integration of Bhashini, which allows access to content in 22 languages. This aims to broaden the reach of scientific information to diverse audiences across the nation. Furthermore, the platforms prioritize accessibility with adjustable font sizes, high-contrast modes, and compatibility with screen readers, ensuring all users can engage with the content.
Supporting a Connected Future
The websites have been developed with a responsive design, allowing seamless access on desktops, tablets, and mobile devices. The enhancements come in the wake of the DBIM 3.0 launch by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), promoting a unified digital presence for government departments.
Moreover, these updates are part of a broader initiative by the Government of India to standardize its digital footprint, ensuring a coherent online experience that promotes transparency and public access to important scientific resources. With a modular Content Management System in place, future updates and integration of new technologies can be efficiently managed, further enriching the user experience.
By fostering an inclusive digital environment, the redeveloped websites are set to empower citizens, researchers, and innovators to engage more readily with India’s dynamic science and technology landscape.
