John VI of Portugal (13 May 1767 – 10 March 1826) was a Portuguese monarch who ruled as King of the United Kingdom of Portugal, Brazil and the Algarves from 1816 to 1825. His son Pedro declared Brazil’s independence, and his other son Miguel later led a rebellion against him. John lost Brazil to independence in 1825, after which he held only the title of titular Emperor of Brazil and King of Portugal until his death on 10 March 1826.
