India’s New Seed Act to Protect Farmers from Fraud
The Government of India is set to unveil a comprehensive Seed Act designed to safeguard farmers from the detrimental impacts of fake and substandard seeds. Before finalizing the legislation, Union Minister for Agriculture, Farmers Welfare and Rural Development, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, will host a significant consultation on September 10 at Krishi Bhawan, New Delhi, aiming to gather insights from farmer organizations across the nation.

Farmer Representatives Converge for Dialogue
The consultation on September 10 will bring together representatives from various prominent farmer organizations, including the Bharatiya Kisan Sangh, Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU), and the All India Kisan Coordination Committee (AIKCC). Farmer leaders from across states such as Karnataka, Telangana, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Bihar, Tamil Nadu, Jharkhand, and Kerala will present their perspectives to the Union Agriculture Minister. This inclusion of diverse voices aims to ensure that the new legislation is comprehensive and reflective of the challenges farmers face.
