In a significant address during the 6th International Climate Summit 2026, Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh emphasized the intertwined nature of energy security, national security, and economic resilience. Speaking on India’s energy strategy, Dr. Singh pointed out the critical role of nuclear energy in the country’s energy roadmap. With a goal to achieve 100 GW of nuclear power by 2047, the Minister celebrated recent moves to allow private players into the nuclear sector, marking a vital shift in the landscape. He noted that achieving India’s ambitious energy goals necessitates a broad, integrated approach and collaboration across various stakeholders.
Innovations in Renewable Energy
Dr. Singh also mentioned the plan to deploy five Small Modular Reactors by 2033, depicting them as key technologies for the future. His remarks spanned other innovative fronts, including the push for green hydrogen solutions, underscored by the launch of India’s first green hydrogen train.
Driving the Circular Economy
Addressing India’s clean energy transition, Dr. Singh argued that biofuels and the circular economy would play crucial roles as new technology pathways emerge. He pointed to the added demand in agriculture, health, transport, and irrigation sectors as essential drivers for accelerating the development and adoption of clean energy technologies.
Fostering Private Sector Participation
The Minister recognized the imperative for increased involvement from the private sector in fostering innovation and technological development. He introduced the ₹1 lakh crore RDI Fund aimed at enhancing private engagement in research and development, emphasizing that the government cannot navigate this landscape alone.
