During the event, Ms. Rohini R. Bhajibhakre, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Rural Development, participated in a session focused on translating national water visions into practical actions. She highlighted India’s long-term water vision, under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which prioritizes water security as a vital component of the country’s growth trajectory. This vision aligns with the broader initiative of Viksit Bharat @2047, aiming to deliver resilient and inclusive water security to all citizens through holistic planning, technological breakthroughs, and community collaboration.

The Ministry spotlighted several flagship initiatives reinforcing India’s water security framework, including the Jal Jeevan Mission, which aims to enhance access to safe drinking water in rural sectors, and the National Initiative on Water Security (NIWS), which encourages investments in water conservation, groundwater recharge, and water harvesting.
Notably, the NIWS emphasizes directing funding towards water-stressed areas based on groundwater data, fostering a transparent and objective investment landscape aimed at achieving long-term water security.
Integrating Technology in Water Management
India’s commitment to technology and data-driven planning emerged as a focal point at the forum. The Ministry showcased its advances in digital public infrastructure and geospatial technologies, such as the Yuktdhara platform, which enhances evidence-based planning for rural development. The E-Jal Application facilitates data-driven budgeting for water resources at the community level while ensuring inclusivity.
Additionally, platforms like E-Saksham strengthen capacity building, and monitoring tools such as VBGRAMG Soft provide real-time oversight of rural development initiatives, enhancing transparency and efficiency in implementing water security programs.
Empowering Local Communities
Emphasizing local involvement, the Ministry advocates for empowering Gram Panchayats and Village Water and Sanitation Committees to take charge of planning and managing water-related infrastructure. Community engagement, social accountability, and digital monitoring systems are crucial for ensuring the lasting effectiveness and sustainability of rural water initiatives.
Engaging in Global Financial Discussions
On August 25, 2026, Ms. Bhajibhakre also engaged in a high-level panel discussing financing for water resilience ahead of the upcoming UN Water Conference. The session sought to gather diverse stakeholders to share insights on bolstering investments in water resilience and achieving Sustainable Development Goals.
