NHAI Unveils New Digital Features for Hassle-Free Highway Travel

In a significant move towards enhancing the travel experience on National Highways, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has introduced two innovative features on the Rajmargyatra Mobile App. These initiatives—a digital ‘Local Pass’ and the ‘MargMitra’ Help Centre—aim to streamline travel, reduce paperwork, and provide quicker access to assistance for highway users.

Seamless Travel with Local Pass

The newly launched ‘Local Pass’ feature allows residents living within a 20-kilometer radius of select toll plazas to purchase their toll pass digitally without the need to visit the toll booth. Initially available at the Mundka – Bakkarwala Toll Plaza on Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II) in Delhi, this service is set to expand nationwide in the coming months. Eligible commuters can now secure unlimited travel during the month through the respective toll plaza, simplifying what used to be a cumbersome process that involved submitting physical documents.

Streamlined Digital Process

Leveraging integration with digital government platforms like DigiLocker and VAHAN, the ‘Local Pass’ feature verifies user information—such as address, vehicle number, and linked FASTag—automatically. This eliminates the need for manual documentation and enhances user convenience, ensuring both transparency and accuracy. The entire purchasing process can now be completed in just a few minutes via the Rajmargyatra Mobile App.

Introducing the MargMitra Help Centre

The NHAI’s commitment to improving user experience continues with the introduction of the ‘MargMitra’ Help Centre, an intelligent digital assistant within the Rajmargyatra Mobile App. Responding to the needs of National Highway users, this feature enables commuters to easily access information, seek assistance, and lodge complaints via a simple conversational interface. Users can communicate in any of the 22 official Indian languages, enhancing inclusivity and accessibility.

Real-Time Assistance and Grievance Resolution

The Help Centre provides instant answers to common queries regarding FASTag recharges, KYC requirements, and local pass services. For more complex issues, users can file complaints, which are then directed to the relevant departments for prompt resolution. Additionally, the platform allows users to track the status of their complaints in real-time and offers an appeal option if they are dissatisfied with the outcome. MargMitra also serves as a resource for checking FASTag blacklisting status and reporting road safety violations.

A Commitment to Digital Transformation

The launch of these features underscores NHAI’s dedication not just to enhance the physical infrastructure of National Highways but to improve the digital experience of commuters as well. This follows the successful sale of over 8 million Annual Passes through the Rajmargyatra app, which features real-time activation.

As part of its efforts, NHAI encourages commuters to download the Rajmargyatra Mobile App, available on both Android and iOS. By utilizing cutting-edge technology, the app offers a wide range of digital services aimed at making highway travel safer, smarter, and more convenient for all users.
