Spain’s Submer Plans $2 Billion Investment in Madhya Pradesh Semiconductor Sector, Potentially Creating 5,000 Jobs

Spanish tech giant Submer Group announced a $2 billion investment in Madhya Pradesh’s semiconductor industry on Monday. This investment is expected to create nearly 5,000 direct jobs. The announcement was made during the MP Tech Growth Conclave 3.0: GCC – Data Centres and Semiconductors, according to a senior state government official.

Investment Details

The investment, amounting to approximately 19,000 crore rupees, was confirmed by a state government official. Patrick Smets, CEO of Submer India Private Limited, praised Madhya Pradesh’s vision, stating that the state is at the forefront of the AI revolution. He emphasized the importance of investing in AI infrastructure for future leadership in the sector.

The state government acted swiftly, allotting 15 acres in the Acharpura industrial area for a data centre project within six days of receiving a request for land. During the event, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Google Play India and the Madhya Pradesh State Electronics Development Corporation (MPSEDC). The state government also issued Letters of Allotment to Smets.

Expansion Plans

Submer’s investment builds on its plans announced last year to expand into the Indian market. The company aims to position India as a central hub for manufacturing and serving the Asian region. Submer noted that India presents an opportunity to develop high-density data centres without the constraints of legacy cooling systems.

The company plans to introduce advanced liquid cooling solutions to reduce energy and water consumption, lower environmental impact, and cut operational costs. Additionally, Submer intends to establish a manufacturing facility in India, transforming the country into a production and export hub for its cooling systems across Asia.

Skill Development Initiatives

Submer also aims to support skill development programs to prepare a workforce for next-generation data centres. The company plans to collaborate with leading skill development agencies and explore MoUs with state governments to expand these initiatives. These efforts are projected to create over 5,000 Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) job opportunities in the coming years.

Dev Tyagi, President of Submer UK, Ireland & India, stated that the company believes in a holistic approach to market entry. By investing in skill development, Submer aims to ensure the successful deployment of its technology while creating long-term, high-value employment for Indian youth.
