India Shines at Bangkok 2026 World Archery Para Series
The Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, celebrated the remarkable achievements of the Indian contingent at the Bangkok 2026 World Archery Para Series. The event, held from March 30 to April 4, 2026, saw India take center stage, topping the medal tally with an impressive haul.
During the felicitation ceremony, Minister Mandaviya praised the athletes for not only leading the medal standings but also for securing double the number of medals compared to the second-placed nation. He expressed, “I congratulate you for not just topping the medal tally but also for winning double the number of medals than the second country.” This achievement marks a proud moment for India, resonating with national pride and unity.
India Tops the Medal Table
The tournament featured participants from 21 countries, showcasing 113 skilled athletes, predominantly from the Asian and Pan-American regions. India emerged victorious, clinching a total of 13 medals—7 gold, 3 silver, and 3 bronze—leaving Indonesia and Thailand trailing with 6 and 5 medals respectively.
Recognizing the significance of this victory, Dr. Mandaviya remarked, “You represent the spirit of New India, and what you accomplish today will define the sporting history of tomorrow.” He urged athletes to maintain this momentum as they prepare for future competitions, including the upcoming Asian Games.
A Strong Contingent Makes History
The Indian squad comprised 39 members, including 21 athletes, 5 coaches, 3 supporting staff, and 10 escorts. Their preparations and participation were financially supported under the ACTC through the ANSF Scheme, with total expenditures reaching ₹1.04 crore for participation and ₹20.51 lakh for training camps.
Key highlights from the medal-winning performances included standout athletes like Toman Kumar and Sheetal Devi, both top athletes within the Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS), who collectively brought home multiple gold and silver medals. Payal Nag, the world’s first quadruple amputee para archer, also made headlines by securing a gold medal in her category.
A Stellar Performance and Future Aspirations
The participating athletes shared their experiences, reflecting on the honor of representing India. Payal Nag and Sheetal Devi highlighted the pride they felt when the Indian national anthem played in celebration of their victories.
Coach Abhilasha Chaudhary remarked on India’s dominance not only through medals but also in its overall presence. Shyam Sunder Swami pointed out that competing nations were acutely aware of India’s ascending strength in the sport.
Dr. Mandaviya reaffirmed the Government’s dedication to supporting para-athletes through enhanced funding, exceptional training facilities, and opportunities for international exposure. He urged the athletes to uphold their hard work and strive for excellence as they approach future sporting events.
The ceremony also witnessed attendance from senior officials of the Archery Association of India, including Secretary General Virendra Sachdeva and Gautam Abrol, further emphasizing the collective triumph of the Indian contingent.
