Tata Power Launches India’s Largest 1 GW Solar Project in Rajasthan
Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL) has achieved a significant milestone by successfully commissioning India’s largest 1 GW DCR-compliant solar project for SJVN Limited. Spanning across the Bandarwala and Karnisar Bhatiyan sites in Bikaner, Rajasthan, this groundbreaking initiative aims to supply clean energy to multiple states, including Rajasthan, Jammu & Kashmir, and Uttarakhand, marking a pivotal advancement in India’s renewable energy landscape.
Technological Innovations and Local Manufacturing
The project utilizes 2.4 million solar modules manufactured at Tata Power’s TP Solar facility in Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu. By leveraging advanced DCR-compliant cells and high-performance mono bifacial modules, the project enhances energy generation even under extreme weather conditions. It exemplifies Tata Power’s commitment to the ‘Make in India’ initiative, bolstering domestic manufacturing and increasing self-reliance in clean energy technologies.
Environmental and Economic Impact
Expected to generate approximately 2,454.84 million units of green electricity in its first year, the project will also help offset an estimated 1.74 million tonnes of COâ‚‚ emissions. This substantial contribution aligns with India’s decarbonisation targets, supporting the national goal of achieving 500 GW of non-fossil fuel capacity by 2030. Furthermore, the project has had a positive socio-economic impact by providing employment to over 300 local workers and enabling the development of more than 25 local vendors, thereby fostering regional economic growth.
Execution Challenges Overcome
Despite facing challenges posed by extreme weather, ranging from scorching temperatures of 50°C to chilling winters at 3°C, TPREL successfully managed to complete the project on time. This was accomplished through precise engineering techniques and the use of specialized equipment designed to function efficiently under these harsh conditions.
Future Commitment to Renewable Energy
With the commissioning of this project, TPREL’s total renewable utility-scale capacity has now reached 11.6 GW, reinforcing its status as a trusted partner in large-scale solar developments.
