New Online Module Streamlines Visa Process for Foreign Talent in India

The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry has officially launched an online platform to assist Indian companies in generating sponsorship letters. This initiative helps facilitate the invitation of foreign professionals for production-related activities under the newly introduced e-Production Investment Business Visa (e-B-4 Visa). The launch took place on November 29, 2025, and is part of a broader series of reforms aimed at enhancing the ease of doing business in India.

Earlier this year, in August 2025, the Ministry of Home Affairs issued a Circular to address various concerns related to employment and business visas. This directive modified the definitions and categories of visas, moving two specific activities – installation and commissioning of equipment by foreign nationals – from the employment visa category to the business visa framework. Consequently, a new sub-category termed the “Production Investment Visa” has been created under the Business Visa regime, enabling foreign experts to engage in several key areas including installation and commissioning, quality control, production processes, IT and ERP ramp-up, training, vendor development, plant design, and senior management visits.

Streamlined Visa Application Process

The introduction of the Production Investment Visa is designed to simplify the visa application process significantly. Issued as an e-visa, prospective applicants can now apply online through the designated Visa portal. To enhance this application procedure, the DPIIT has launched the e-Production Investment Business registration module on the National Single Window System (NSWS), available to both Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) and non-PLI businesses.

This new module allows Indian companies and Limited Liability Partnerships (LLPs) to quickly generate digital sponsorship letters for inviting foreign professionals under the e-B-4 Visa category. The application process has been optimized to include simpler forms, and all previous recommendations required from the Line Ministry have been eliminated. Data auto-population and automatic verification using existing databases like MCA and GSTN further streamline this process, removing the need for Line Ministry approval entirely.

Integrated Solutions for Businesses

Once the sponsorship letter is generated, it will include a unique ID that must be referenced by the foreign professional while applying for the visa through the e-Visa portal. This module has been integrated with the NSWS via an API, promoting a seamless experience for all parties involved. The reforms and new systems put in place reflect the Indian government’s commitment to economic growth and the development of a business-friendly landscape.
