Infosys Revitalizes Campus Hiring by Involving Senior Employees in College Interview Panels

Infosys, India’s second-largest IT services company, is set to revive its campus hiring initiatives after a two-year hiatus. The firm has called upon its senior employees to participate in panel interviews at universities across the country, signaling a renewed focus on recruiting fresh talent. This comes after a significant reduction in hiring during the pandemic, where Infosys hired only 11,900 freshers in FY24, a sharp decline from 50,000 in the previous year. For FY25, the company plans to increase its recruitment to 15,000 freshers, maintaining a target of 15,000-20,000 for the fiscal year ending March 2026.
Revival of Campus Hiring
Infosys is taking proactive steps to bolster its recruitment efforts by engaging senior staff members in the hiring process. These employees will conduct interviews at various educational institutions, focusing on recruiting digital specialist engineers (DSE). This initiative marks the first time Infosys has reached out to its managerial staff and above through mass email communications, inviting them to volunteer for the interview panels. The selected employees will assess candidates’ programming skills and problem-solving abilities, which are essential for entry-level positions.
To qualify for participation, employees must hold job-level five (JL5) or higher positions, have been with the company for at least a year, and have received a performance rating of ‘met expectations.’ The interviews will take place at multiple campuses, targeting candidates for positions in Infosys’s development centers across India. This approach aims to enhance the quality of new hires by leveraging the expertise of seasoned employees.
Recruitment Process and Timeline
The campus recruitment drive is scheduled to take place between October and the end of November. Infosys plans to conduct a comprehensive evaluation process that includes aptitude assessments, group interactions, technical interviews, managerial discussions, and HR consultations. The initial stages of this process will be held at various tier-2 and -3 engineering colleges, with students from diverse disciplines such as electrical, electronics, telecom, computer science, information technology, civil, and mechanical engineering participating.
The recruitment strategy aims to interview a significant number of students, with expectations of reaching up to 1,000 candidates from reputed colleges. The interviews will focus on seventh-semester students, as those who qualify will undergo training at Infosys’s global education center in Mysuru after completing their eighth semester. The positions offered will be for freshers joining as trainees, with their permanent employment contingent upon successfully completing the training program.
Impact on the IT Sector
The revival of campus hiring by Infosys comes at a time when the IT sector is experiencing a transformation driven by advancements in artificial intelligence (AI). Despite recent layoffs affecting over 2% of its workforce, TCS and other leading IT firms are collectively aiming to recruit more than 70,000 graduates in FY26. This indicates a positive trend for new graduates entering the job market.
As companies adapt to the evolving landscape, they are prioritizing AI-native skills and specialized competencies in their hiring processes. This shift underscores the importance of reskilling and upskilling current employees to meet the demands of a rapidly changing industry. The renewed focus on campus recruitment reflects a commitment to nurturing fresh talent and ensuring that the workforce is equipped with the necessary skills to thrive in an AI-driven environment.
