Dying Light: Enhanced Update Launches June 26

Dying Light, the popular survival horror game released in 2015 by Techland, is set to receive a significant update that enhances its graphics and audio. The Dying Light: Retouched Update will be available on June 26 for PC and consoles, marking a decade since the game’s original launch. This update promises to improve textures, lighting, draw distances, and shadow quality, along with a remastered soundtrack, while the studio prepares for the upcoming release of Dying Light: The Beast in August.

Dying Light: Retouched Update Details

Techland officially announced the release date for the Dying Light: Retouched Update in a blog post on Tuesday. Franchise director Tymon Smektaล‚a emphasized that this update is not a full remaster but rather a collection of specific enhancements aimed at improving the existing game. He clarified, โ€œQuite a few of you were expecting a full remaster of some sort. So, let’s set the record straight: the Retouched Update is about squeezing out even more from the Dying Light you already love. It’s not a complete overhaul or remaster.โ€

The update will feature enhanced texture quality, providing a sharper appearance to the gameโ€™s environments. Improvements in lighting and physics-based rendering will enhance reflections, particularly on metal surfaces. Grzegorz ลšwistowski, the franchise’s technical game director, explained that over the past few years, the team has learned to optimize the existing technology, which led to the realization that they could apply these advancements to older assets throughout the game.

Visual Enhancements and Technical Improvements

One of the key features of the Retouched Update is the increase in the maximum level of detail (LOD) range from 260 percent to 340 percent. This enhancement allows players on modern systems to enjoy greater detail in distant assets. Additionally, various surfaces, including floors and walls, will benefit from new 8K ultra shadow quality and improved lighting, adding depth and detail to the gameโ€™s visuals.

Despite these significant upgrades, Techland has confirmed that the system requirements for Dying Light will remain unchanged. This means that players will not need to upgrade their hardware to experience the visual improvements. The update aims to enhance the gaming experience while ensuring accessibility for all players.

Audio Enhancements and Future Releases

In addition to visual upgrades, the Retouched Update will also feature a remastered soundtrack. Composer Paweล‚ Blaszczak has worked on the entire score, introducing new tracks and ambient sounds to enrich the gameplay experience. Furthermore, the audio feedback during combat has been improved, making it sound more impactful and immersive.

Dying Light: Retouched Update will be available as a free download for all existing owners of the game on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series S/X on June 26. Following this update, Techland is set to release Dying Light: The Beast on August 22 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series S/X, with a version for previous-generation consoles expected later in the year. This upcoming title continues the franchise’s legacy, promising to deliver more thrilling experiences for fans of the series.
