BSNL Unveils SIM Card Doorstep Delivery Portal

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has launched a new service that allows customers to receive SIM cards directly at their homes. This initiative aims to enhance customer convenience by enabling users to order both prepaid and postpaid SIM cards online. To complete the delivery process, customers must perform a self KYC (Know Your Customer) verification. This move positions BSNL alongside private telecom operators like Airtel, Reliance Jio, and Vodafone Idea, who already offer similar services.

BSNL’s New Online Portal

BSNL’s newly introduced online portal facilitates the home delivery of SIM cards. Customers can access the portal to either obtain a new number or port their existing number from another service provider to BSNL. To initiate the process, users must fill out a customer registration form that includes selecting between a prepaid or postpaid SIM card. The required information includes the applicant’s name, PIN code, and an alternate mobile number.

Once the form is submitted, an OTP (One-Time Password) is sent to the alternate mobile number for verification. This step is crucial for ensuring the security of the transaction. The introduction of this service is a strategic move by BSNL to attract more customers in a competitive market.

Competitive Landscape

With the launch of the home delivery service, BSNL enters a competitive arena dominated by private players such as Airtel, Reliance Jio, and Vodafone Idea. These companies have already established similar services, often at no additional cost to the consumer. However, it remains unclear whether BSNL’s home delivery service will incur any charges. The company recorded a low Visitor Location Register (VLR) ratio of 61.4 percent, highlighting concerns about its active user engagement.
