Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan

Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Shri Devendra Fadnavis, alongside Union Minister for Education, Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, inaugurated the Mukesh Patel School of Technology Management & Engineering in Mumbai on June 14, 2025. The event also included the Bhoomi Pujan for the upcoming Shri Vile Parle Kelavani Mandal (SVKM) Educational Complex and the inauguration of the new Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS) building. Both leaders emphasized the importance of the National Education Policy (NEP) in shaping a skilled workforce and fostering innovation in education.

Significance of the National Education Policy

During the inauguration, Chief Minister Fadnavis highlighted the transformative impact of the National Education Policy (NEP) on India’s educational landscape. He noted that the NEP has successfully integrated Indian cultural values into the global education framework. Fadnavis emphasized the necessity of developing human capital to support economic growth, stating that a skilled workforce is crucial for attracting industry. He urged educational institutions to adapt to the changing demands of the job market, particularly in technology-driven sectors. The Chief Minister also pointed out that the NEP has introduced flexibility into the education system, allowing students to pursue diverse fields of study and promoting a multi-disciplinary approach to education.

Fadnavis further declared Mumbai as India’s start-up capital, stressing the need to strengthen the ecosystem for emerging entrepreneurs. He called for collaboration between government and academia to create an enabling environment for youth, encouraging them to take the lead in driving the country’s future.

Emphasis on Mother Tongue Education

Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan spoke passionately about the NEP 2020, describing it as a philosophical framework aimed at enhancing the quality of education in India. He underscored the importance of using mother tongues and Indian languages as the primary medium of instruction, especially in early education. Pradhan referenced historical figures like Shri Aurobindo and Rabindranath Tagore, who advocated for education in native languages during British rule. He argued that countries that have thrived globally often did so by prioritizing education in their native languages, suggesting that Indian children could similarly excel by learning in their mother tongue during their formative years.

Pradhan also stressed that developing practical skills is more vital than merely obtaining degrees. He encouraged students to embrace traditional Indian knowledge and to become innovators and entrepreneurs, rather than just job seekers. His vision for the youth includes leveraging technology to address global challenges and contribute positively to the economy.

Commitment to Educational Excellence

The event was attended by several dignitaries, including the Chancellor of SVKM and NMIMS, Shri Amrish R. Patel, and local MLAs. The newly inaugurated facilities at SVKM and NMIMS feature advanced laboratories focusing on Industry 4.0 technologies, such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Augmented Reality (AR), Virtual Reality (VR), and 3D printing. This development marks a significant step forward in India’s pursuit of educational excellence and innovation.

The establishment of these state-of-the-art facilities reaffirms the commitment to enhancing higher education standards in the country. By integrating cutting-edge technology into the curriculum, the institutions aim to prepare students for the demands of a rapidly evolving job market and to foster a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship.
