FG-AINN Build-a-thon 2025 Concludes with Global Showcase of AI-Native Network
The Focus Group-AI Native Networking (AINN) Build-a-thon 2025 wrapped up today, showcasing groundbreaking AI-native telecom solutions from ten finalist teams worldwide. Held in New Delhi as part of the 3rd Meeting of the ITU Focus Group on Autonomous Networks, the event aimed to advance standardization efforts in future autonomous networks. This global initiative, organized by the Telecommunication Engineering Centre (TEC) and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), highlighted the importance of collaboration in developing innovative networking systems.
Innovative Solutions and Collaboration
The Build-a-thon served as a dynamic platform for innovation, bringing together developers, researchers, students, startups, and telecom professionals. Participants collaborated to create open-source solutions for autonomous networks, focusing on areas such as closed-loop automation, intent-based operations, and digital twin ecosystems. The event aimed to accelerate the development of AI-native networking systems, addressing key gaps and proposing practical use cases.
Registration for the Build-a-thon began in early May 2025, attracting a total of 23 teams with 57 participants from various countries. After rigorous evaluations, ten teams were selected to present their innovative solutions. The event featured interactive mentoring sessions and collaborative workshops, fostering an environment where participants could refine their ideas and demonstrate their concepts effectively.
Acknowledging Excellence
At the conclusion of the event, all shortlisted participants received certificates, with awards presented to the top three teams. Team SliceMinds secured first place, followed by Team SNR in second, and Team Nowiresattached in third. Additionally, Team AIONETx received special recognition as the best all-women’s team, while Teams OMACS and SSN were acknowledged for their excellence in mentorship. The awards were presented by notable figures, including Smt. Tripti Saxena, Dr. Rajkumar Upadhyay, and Shri Deepesh Srivastava, underscoring the significance of the event in promoting innovation in telecommunications.
Key Outcomes and Future Directions
The Build-a-thon yielded several key outcomes, including practical AI-driven solutions for network slicing, traffic shaping, and self-healing networks. Participants developed Proofs of Concept (PoCs) for digital twins and large language model-based knowledge platforms, enhancing the understanding of RAN optimization. The event also facilitated strong engagement among academia, startups, and professionals through structured mentoring and hands-on demonstrations.
This initiative represents a significant step towards achieving India’s and ITU’s shared vision of fostering ethical, inclusive, and globally standardized AI. The Build-a-thon aligns with ongoing efforts to promote sustainable telecom innovation and digital transformation, highlighting the importance of collaboration in addressing the challenges of the future.
Finalist Teams and Their Innovations
The finalist teams showcased a diverse range of innovative approaches to AI-native networking. AIONETx, a women-led team from VIT Chennai, focused on packet classification and dynamic policy injection for traffic shaping. Team SliceMinds from SRM Institute of Science & Technology tackled intelligent network slicing, while Team SNR from RVCE Bengaluru demonstrated intent-based automation.
Other notable teams included Nowiresattached, which worked on self-healing networks, and Cellucast, which presented dynamic AI model selection for traffic analysis. Each team contributed unique solutions, reflecting the collaborative spirit of the Build-a-thon and the potential for AI to transform telecommunications. As the event concluded, it became clear that the future of AI-native networking is bright, driven by the creativity and dedication of these emerging innovators.
