Google Shopping Unveils AI-Powered Features

Google Shopping has announced a significant upgrade to its product discovery platform, introducing a suite of new artificial intelligence (AI) features designed to enhance the shopping experience. These tools, aimed primarily at apparel and makeup categories, will allow users to visualize products before making purchases. Currently available to users in the United States, the company has yet to reveal plans for a broader rollout.

Innovative Image Generation for Apparel

The first major feature introduced is an image generation tool that simplifies the search for specific clothing items. When users have a particular outfit in mind but struggle to locate it through traditional search methods, they can utilize the new โ€œCan’t find it? Create itโ€ prompt. By tapping this option, users can describe the desired outfit in text form, prompting the AI to generate multiple images that closely match their description.

Once the images are generated, users can select the one that best fits their vision. Following this, the platform conducts a visual search to identify products that resemble the chosen image. This feature, which was previously available as an experimental tool in Google Labs, aims to streamline the shopping process and make it more intuitive for users seeking specific styles.

Virtual Makeup Try-On Experience

In addition to apparel, Google Shopping is enhancing the beauty shopping experience with a virtual makeup try-on feature. This tool employs AI and augmented reality (AR) to allow users to experiment with various makeup looks. To access this feature, users can search for popular makeup styles or terms like โ€œspring makeup.โ€ The platform will then display a selection of looks that users can try on virtually.

Once a user selects a makeup look and activates the AR mode, the AI overlays effects such as eyelashes, blush, lip gloss, and mascara onto the userโ€™s face. This interactive experience helps users visualize how different products will appear on them. If they find a look they like, they can easily access a list of the corresponding makeup products available for purchase.

Expanded Virtual Try-On for Clothing

Google Shopping is also expanding its virtual try-on capabilities, which previously focused on tops and dresses. The updated feature now includes pants and skirts, allowing users to see how various garments fit on a diverse range of real models, from sizes XXS to XXL. This enhancement aims to provide a more inclusive shopping experience by showcasing how clothing looks on different body types.

Users can select a model that resonates with them, and any apparel they choose will be displayed, complete with fitting and length details. Google is leveraging its machine learning models to improve the accuracy of these representations and ensure that brand styling is effectively communicated. This upgrade is part of Googleโ€™s ongoing efforts to make online shopping more engaging and personalized for consumers.
