94th Meeting of Network Planning Group under PM GatiShakti Evaluates Key Aspects

The 94th meeting of the Network Planning Group (NPG) took place today, focusing on crucial infrastructure proposals in the Metro Rail and Civil Aviation sectors. The meeting evaluated five key projects to ensure they align with the PM GatiShakti National Master Plan (PMGS-NMP), emphasizing improvements in multimodal connectivity and logistics efficiency. These initiatives aim to reduce travel times, alleviate urban congestion, and foster regional development.
Metro Rail Projects Proposed by MoHUA
The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) presented four significant Metro Rail projects during the meeting. One of the highlighted proposals is the extension of the Metro Line from Aerocity to Indira Gandhi Domestic Terminal-1 (IGD T-1). This 2.16 km underground extension will create a new metro station at IGD T-1, enhancing access for commuters from key residential areas such as Tughlakabad, Khanpur, Saket, Mehrauli, and Vasant Kunj. This project aims to improve airport connectivity and streamline regional transit, particularly benefiting travelers from Faridabad.
Another notable proposal is the extension of the Magenta Line from Ramakrishna Ashram Marg to Indraprastha. This 9.913 km fully underground corridor will connect major landmarks, including Central Vista, India Gate, and Pragati Maidan. A proposed station at India Gate will provide a safe and convenient transport option for visitors, promoting sustainable urban mobility by reducing reliance on private vehicles.
The third project involves the extension of the Golden Line from Tughlakabad to Kalindi Kunj. This 9 km elevated corridor will facilitate an interchange at Kalindi Kunj, linking the Violet and Magenta lines. It aims to enhance airport access and improve connectivity between Noida, Greater Noida, and Delhi, ultimately increasing travel convenience for commuters.
Lastly, a new Metro corridor from Noida Sector-51 to Knowledge Park V in Greater Noida is proposed. Spanning 17.435 km, this project will directly connect Noida with the newly developed Greater Noida West township, providing significant relief to commuters in the rapidly expanding urban sectors.
Greenfield Airport Initiative by MoCA
In addition to the Metro projects, the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) proposed the development of a Greenfield Airport in Bundi, Kota, Rajasthan. This airport will cover approximately 400 acres and is designed to meet the increasing air travel demand in the region. The facility will accommodate A321-200 type aircraft and feature a modern terminal capable of handling 500 arrivals and 500 departures during peak hours.
The proposed airport will include essential infrastructure such as a runway, apron, taxiways, isolation bay, technical block, air traffic control tower, and a fire station. This initiative is expected to significantly boost economic growth, tourism, and trade in the area. It will particularly benefit the large number of students and families traveling to Kota, which has become a national hub for competitive exam preparation.
Meeting Overview and Future Implications
The meeting was chaired by Shri Pankaj Kumar, Joint Secretary of the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT). The evaluation of these infrastructure proposals reflects the government’s commitment to enhancing transportation networks and improving logistics efficiency across the country. By aligning these projects with the PM GatiShakti National Master Plan, the NPG aims to create a more integrated and efficient transportation system that supports socio-economic development.
The proposed Metro Rail and Greenfield Airport projects are expected to have a lasting impact on urban mobility and regional connectivity. As these initiatives move forward, they will play a crucial role in addressing the challenges of urban congestion and facilitating smoother travel for millions of commuters. The successful implementation of these projects will not only enhance the quality of life for residents but also contribute to the overall economic growth of the regions involved.
