7.23 Crore Bihar Electors Actively Participate in SIR Process

In a significant development for the electoral process in Bihar, nearly all eligible voters have been accounted for, with 99.8% of electors covered so far. The Election Commission has received and digitized forms from approximately 7.23 crore electors, ensuring their names will be included in the upcoming Draft Electoral Roll. The completion of this digitization process is expected by August 1, 2025, along with the rectification of any discrepancies identified by political parties.

Progress in Voter Registration

As of now, the Election Commission has successfully digitized forms from 7.23 crore electors in Bihar, marking a significant milestone in the voter registration process. This effort ensures that the names of these electors will be included in the Draft Electoral Roll, which is set to be published on August 1, 2025. The local Booth Level Officers (BLOs) and Booth Level Agents (BLAs) have been instrumental in this process, reporting on various categories of electors, including those who are deceased or have migrated. The digitization of forms is a crucial step towards enhancing the transparency and accuracy of the electoral process in the state.

Identification of Ineligible Electors

The Election Commission has also taken proactive measures to identify electors who may not be eligible to vote. Reports indicate that approximately 22 lakh names of deceased electors have been documented, alongside about 7 lakh electors registered in multiple locations. Furthermore, around 35 lakh electors have either permanently migrated or could not be traced. The lists of these individuals have been shared with all 12 political parties in Bihar, allowing them to rectify any errors before the Draft Electoral Roll is finalized. This collaborative approach aims to ensure that the electoral list is accurate and up-to-date.

Political Party Involvement

The successful execution of the first phase of the Special Initiative for Registration (SIR) can be attributed to the collaborative efforts of various stakeholders, including the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Bihar, 38 District Election Officers (DEOs), and 243 Electoral Registration Officers (EROs). Additionally, the involvement of political parties and their representatives has been crucial. The Election Commission has encouraged these parties to participate actively in the verification process, allowing them to submit claims for any eligible electors who may have been overlooked or to file objections against ineligible entries. This engagement is vital for maintaining the integrity of the electoral process.

Next Steps in the Electoral Process

Looking ahead, the Election Commission has outlined the next steps in the electoral process. From August 1 to September 1, 2025, any elector or political party can submit claims or objections regarding the Draft Electoral Roll. This period will be crucial for ensuring that all eligible voters are accounted for and that any inaccuracies are addressed promptly. The collaborative efforts of the Election Commission, political parties, and local officials will play a significant role in shaping the electoral landscape in Bihar, ultimately aiming for a fair and transparent election process.
