6th All India Conference of GRP Chiefs Confirms Unified National Strategy

The 6th All India Conference of Government Railway Police Chiefs concluded successfully today at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi. Organized by the Railway Protection Force (RPF), the conference brought together Directors General, Additional Directors General, and senior officials from various states and union territories. The gathering aimed to tackle the increasing challenges of crime on Indian Railways and enhance the safety and security of millions of daily passengers.

Addressing Crime Control Challenges

The conference focused on the pressing need to address crime control on the Indian Railways, which serves as a vital transportation network for millions. Participants discussed strategies to improve intelligence-sharing and develop joint operational plans to counteract criminal activities. The discussions highlighted the importance of inter-agency coordination to effectively combat the evolving tactics employed by criminals who exploit the extensive railway system. By fostering collaboration among various state and union territory police forces, the conference aimed to create a unified front against crime.

Enhancing Passenger Safety and Awareness

A significant topic during the conference was the enhancement of passenger awareness campaigns. These initiatives aim to educate travelers about common scams and theft tactics used by criminals. The conference participants agreed on the need to streamline the process of converting theft complaints filed on the Rail Madad portal into formal First Information Reports (FIRs). This approach is expected to improve detection rates and deter repeat offenses. Furthermore, discussions included the deployment of proactive surveillance and technology-driven solutions, such as Facial Recognition Systems, to dismantle organized criminal networks targeting high-value passenger belongings.

Focus on Womenโ€™s Safety and Vulnerable Populations

The conference also placed a strong emphasis on the safety of women passengers. Participants discussed implementing targeted patrolling, installing CCTV cameras in stations and coaches, and deploying “Meri Saheli” teams to enhance security for female travelers. Additionally, the issue of child safety on railway premises was addressed, with a focus on identifying and rehabilitating vulnerable children at risk of trafficking and exploitation. The need for robust preventive measures against crimes targeting women and children was underscored throughout the discussions.

Combating Drug Trafficking and Terrorism Threats

Another critical area of concern was the misuse of railway premises by drug traffickers and smugglers. Strategies to combat these illegal activities were discussed, including intensified checks and real-time intelligence sharing. A presentation by the Intelligence Bureau highlighted potential terrorist threats to sensitive railway installations, emphasizing the need for vulnerability assessments and enhanced security protocols. The conference concluded with a commitment from the RPF and GRP forces to transform Indian Railways into a zero-tolerance zone for crime, ensuring the safety of all passengers and maintaining the railway system’s status as the nation’s lifeline.
