Birth Anniversary

5 January in Indian history is celebrated as the birth anniversary of the following personalities:

Mirza Sahib Uddin Baig Muhammad Khan Khurram (5 January 1592 – 22 January 1666), the fifth Mughal emperor. Shah Jahan was very popular during his time due to his justice and luxury. After the death of Emperor Jahangir, Shah Jahan was chosen as the heir to the Mughal throne at a young age. He ascended the throne in 1627 after the death of his father. He was born on 5 January 1592.

Barindra Kumar Ghosh (5 January 1880 – 18 April 1959), an Indian freedom fighter and journalist. He is also known as Barin Ghosh. He was the younger brother of spiritualist Aurobindo Ghosh. The credit for spreading revolutionary ideology in Bengal goes to Barindra Kumar and Bhupendra Nath Dutt, who were the younger brothers of Swami Vivekananda. As a result of the ‘Swadeshi Movement’, Barindra Kumar Ghosh started the publication of the Bengali weekly ‘Yugantar‘ in 1906 to propagate revolutionary ideas. He also formed the ‘Maniktalla Party’ in 1907 to coordinate the activities of revolutionary terrorism. In 1908, he was arrested and sentenced to death, but later it was changed to life imprisonment. After spending ten years in Andaman Jail, he spent the rest of his time in journalism. Barindra Kumar Ghosh was also associated with Bengali dailies ‘The Statesman’ and ‘Vasumitra’. He was born on 5 January 1880.

Murli Manohar Joshi, an Indian politician, a senior leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party. He was also the National President of BJP from 1991 to 1993. He was also appointed as the Union Minister of Human Resource Development in the National Democratic Alliance government. Murli Manohar Joshi has also received ‘Padma Vibhushan’ and the second-highest civilian award. Most people know him for his policies and thinking of Hindu social politics and integral humanity. Murli Manohar Joshi has been a member of the sixth, eleventh, twelfth, thirteenth, fifteenth, and sixteenth Lok Sabha. He was born on 5 January 1934 in Delhi.

Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi (5 January 1941 – 22 September 2011), a former captain and legendary player of the Indian cricket team. Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, who left an indelible mark in the cricket world due to his captaincy more than his artistic batting, had added new examples and new dimensions of leadership skills in Indian cricket. He was born on 5 January 1941 in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh.

Deepika Padukone, an Indian actress who works in Hindi films. One of the highest-paid actresses in India, her accolades include three Filmfare Awards. She was born on 5 January 1986 in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Death Anniversary

5 January in Indian history is observed as the death anniversary of the following personalities:

Chitlkar Ramchandra (12 January 1918 – 5 January 1982), a musical direction, singer, filmmaker, direction and acting. He also kept the cine lovers crazy about himself. C. Ramchandra, popularly known as ‘Anna Saheb’ in the film world, was not untouched by any genre related to films. He was such a cheerful person, whose mere presence made the atmosphere pleasant. The tendency to keep on laughing was very finely carved in his music direction and singing too. This style of C. Ramchandra is still in the memories of his loved ones. He died on 5 January 1982.

Sir Mirza Muhammad Ismail (23 October 1883 – 5 January 1959), an assistant secretary to the Maharaja of Mysore in 1908. After some time was also appointed as the Diwan of Mysore. He was born on 5 January 1959.
