3rd India-EU High Level Dialogue on Trade and Investment held

The 3rd High Level Dialogue (HLD), co-chaired by Union Minister for Trade and Industry, Consumers, Food and Public Distribution and Textiles Shri Piyush Goya and European Commission Executive Vice-President for an Economy that Works for People and by Trade Commissioner Valdis Dombrovskis, took place on the 26ththAugust 2023.

The HLD is the result of the decision made at 3pmth India-EU Leaders’ Summit held in July 2020, with the aim of ministerial-level guidance towards bilateral trade and investment relations.

During the discussion, in the HLD, ministers took stock of the three ongoing negotiations between India and the EU, namely the India-EU Free Trade Agreement; an autonomous agreement on investment protection; and an agreement on geographical indications. Ministers acknowledged that both sides have made good progress Inthe three ongoing negotiations.

Ministers extensively discussed the market access issue of both sides and reviewed the progress made so far in the India-EU Trade and Technology Council. Upcoming MC-13 issues were also briefly discussed during the meeting.

Shri Piyush Goyal enjoyed the visit of the European CommissionEVPMsr. Valdis Dombrovskis and extending his support to the recent meeting of G20 Trade and Investment Ministers in Jaipur on 24th -25th August 2023.

The meeting concluded with both ministers expressing confidence in the three ongoing negotiations and pledging to deepen the trade and economic partnership between India and the EU.
