Gaspar Henaine: The Comedy King of Mexican Cinema

Gaspar Henaine (6 January 1927 – 30 September 2011) also known by his stage name Capulina, was a Mexican actor, comedian, and film producer. He began his career as a stage actor in the 1940s. Henaine became popular for his comedic roles in Mexican films and television shows, and he was particularly known for his ability to play multiple characters in the same film.

Life and Career

He was born on 6 January 1927 in Mexico City and began his career as a stage actor in the 1940s. Henaine quickly gained popularity for his comedic roles in Mexican films and television shows, and he became known for his ability to play multiple characters in the same film.

In the 1950s, Henaine began producing his own films and founded his own production company, Capulina Producciones. He produced and starred in numerous films throughout his career, many of which were popular in Latin America and around the world. Henaine continued to act and produce films until his death in 2010 at the age of 87.

Henaine died of complications with pneumonia and a gastric ulcer on 30 September  2011.

Throughout his career, Henaine appeared in more than 150 films and television shows, and he was one of the most popular actors in Mexico. The character of Capulina gained huge popularity and a very successful comic book series -with stories by comic artist Oscar González Guerrero and art by his son Oscar Gonzalez Loyo- was published in the seventies and early eighties. On 6 January 2015, Google Doodle celebrated Gaspar Henaine (Capulina)’s 89th Birthday.
