Vinayak Damodar Savarkar (28 May 1883 – 26 February 1966), an Indian independence activist and politician who formulated the Hindu nationalist philosophy of Hindutva. He was a leading personality in the Hindu Mahasabha. Savarkar joined the Hindu Mahasabha and popularized the term Hindutva (Hinduness), previously coined by Chandranath Basu, to create a collective “Hindu” identity as an essence of Bharat (India). Savarkar was an atheist and also a pragmatic practitioner of Hindu philosophy. He was born on 28 May 1883 in Nashik district, Bombay State, British India.
Shantanurao Laxmanrao Kirloskar (28 May 1903 – 24 April 1994) was an Indian businessman who was instrumental in the rapid growth of the Kirloskar Group. S. L. Kirloskar was the son of Laxmanrao Kirloskar, who established the Kirloskar Group and the township of Kirloskarwadi. He was awarded Padma Bhushan in the year 1965 for his contribution to trade and industry. He was born on 28 May 1903 in Solapur, Bombay state, British India.
Gopala Ramanujam (28 May 1915 – 26 June 2001) was an Indian politician and co-founder of the Indian National Trade Union Congress. He was a recipient of the third highest Indian civilian award of the Padma Bhushan. He was born on 28 May 1915 at Edircottal village, Ramanathapuram District in Tamil Nadu, India.
Mahant Avaidyanath (28 May 1921 – 12 September 2014), an Indian politician and Hindu preacher. He was the Mahant (chief priest) of Gorakhnath Temple, succeeding his guru Digvijay Nath. He was also a politician of the Hindu Mahasabha and, later Bharatiya Janata Party, being elected to the Lok Sabha from Gorakhpur four times. He played an important role in the Ram Janmabhoomi movement. He was the mentor and guru of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. He was born on 28 May 1921.

Mehboob Khan Ramzan Khan (9 September 1907 – 28 May 1964), pioneer producer-director of Indian cinema, best known for directing the social epic Mother India (1957), which won the Filmfare Awards for Best Film and Best Director, two National Film Awards, and was a nominee for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. He died on 28 May 1964.
B. Vithalacharya(18 January 1920 – 28 May 1999) was an Indian film director and producer known for his works in Telugu cinema and Kannada cinema. He was known as Jaanapada Brahma in the Telugu film arena. He died on 28 May 1999.
