20,000 sq. ft. Skill Development Centre to be Established at AURIC in Collaboration

A new Skill Development Centre, spanning 20,000 square feet, is set to be established at the Aurangabad Industrial City (AURIC) in collaboration with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII). The signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) is anticipated next week, following a visit by Shri Amardeep Singh Bhatia, Secretary of the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT). During his visit to Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar on July 12, 2025, Bhatia reviewed the region’s industrial infrastructure and startup development, emphasizing the importance of attracting global investments and enhancing the local innovation ecosystem.

Focus on Global Investments and R&D Development

During his visit, Secretary Bhatia highlighted the need to attract Global Capability Centre (GCC) investments to bolster the region’s industrial landscape. He stressed the importance of developing Research & Development (R&D) centres at AURIC to foster innovation. Stakeholders present at the meeting proposed integrating PMAY 2.0 subsidies with state housing policies to create a comprehensive package for inclusive residential development. This initiative aims to support the growth of a well-rounded industrial township in the area.

The discussions also included suggestions for improving connectivity between Aurangabad, Hyderabad, and Chennai, as well as the establishment of a Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facility and a Vande Bharat terminal. Other recommendations included enhancing logistics access at Bidkin, introducing local train services between Jalna and Waluj, and increasing land reservations for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and startups. The Secretary of the Industries Department, Dr. P. Anbalagan, presented the stateโ€™s strategic vision for industrial growth, which includes initiatives like MITL and MMLP.

Engagement with Entrepreneurs and Startups

The visit commenced with an interactive session at the Marathwada Accelerator for Growth and Incubation Council (MAGIC). Here, Secretary Bhatia engaged with budding entrepreneurs, incubators, and startup founders from the region. He commended their innovative spirit and reiterated the government’s commitment to supporting the startup ecosystem through initiatives such as Startup India and the Fund of Funds. These efforts are particularly aimed at enhancing opportunities in Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities, fostering a vibrant entrepreneurial environment.

Bhatia’s engagement with the startup community underscores the government’s focus on nurturing innovation and entrepreneurship as key drivers of economic growth. By providing sector-specific incentives, the government aims to create a conducive environment for startups to thrive, ultimately contributing to the region’s overall development.

Review of Industrial Infrastructure

Secretary Bhatia’s itinerary included a thorough review of key infrastructure sites in the Bidkin Industrial Area, such as JSW Green-Tech Ltd, Toyota Kirloskar’s facility, and a Water Treatment Plant. His tour continued to the Shendra Industrial Area, where he visited significant industrial units, including NLMK India, Hyosung T&D Pvt. Ltd., and Coatall Films Pvt. Ltd. Bhatia acknowledged the vital role these companies play in driving high-value manufacturing and generating employment, aligning with the vision of Viksit Bharat@2047.

Additionally, Bhatia inspected various facilities at AURIC, including the Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC), the state-of-the-art AURIC Hall, and the 3D city model of Shendra. His visit emphasized the importance of collaboration between government and industry to position Maharashtra as a global hub for manufacturing and innovation. The active participation of industry associations and the Government of Maharashtra during the session reinforced their shared commitment to catalyzing industrial growth in the region.

About AURIC and Its Development Plans

The Aurangabad Industrial City (AURIC) is being developed in two phases, covering 4,000 hectares (10,000 acres) to create a modern industrial hub. The Auric Smart City project follows a balanced development model, allocating 60% of the land for industries and the remaining 40% for commercial, residential, educational, and healthcare facilities. Essential infrastructure, including water supply, electricity, sewage systems, and high-speed internet, has been established in both Shendra (2,000 acres) and Bidkin Phase-1 (2,500 acres), with underground distribution reaching individual industrial plots.

Notably, 42% of the water demand will be met through treated wastewater, showcasing a commitment to sustainability. The city is equipped with advanced governance systems, including SCADA systems, CCTV surveillance, air quality monitoring sensors, and traffic control mechanisms. The implementation of an e-Land Management system ensures transparency in the industrial land allotment process. With its electricity distribution license, Auric Smart City offers power at lower tariffs, making it an attractive destination for investors.
