Samaun Samadikun: A Visionary Statesman of Indonesia

Samaun Samadikun (15 April 1931 โ€“ 15 November 2006) was an Indonesian electrical engineer.

Life and Career

Samaun Samadikun was born on 15 April 1931. He earned a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Stanford, was a professor at Indonesiaโ€™s Bandung Institute of Technology and was the founder of the Indonesian Academy of Sciences. His contributions to microelectronics research, space programs, and university engineering still resonate today.

He died on 15 November 2006 at 9:51 AM at MMC Hospital due to brain cancer in Jakarta and was buried the next day with a military ceremony at the Kalibata Heroes Cemetery.

Award and Legacy

In 1963, the Governor of West Java acknowledged Samaun for his contribution to TV broadcasting development in West Java. The Indonesian government has awarded Samaun Satya Lencana Karya Satya Class I in 1984 and Mahaputera Star Class III (Bintang Mahaputera Utama) in 1994. On 15 April 2016, Google celebrated Samaun Samadikunโ€™s 85th birthday with a doodle.
