Mahmoud Abdel Aziz (4 June 1946 โ 12 November 2016) was an Egyptian film and television actor. He became famous for several famous roles in Egyptian cinema, before becoming famous in his native Egypt and the whole region for his Egyptian patriotic role in the Egyptian TV series Raafat el-Hagan.
Life and Career
Mahmoud Abdel Aziz was born on June 4, 1946, in Alexandria, Egypt. He grew up in a middle-class family and developed a passion for acting from a young age. He studied at the Faculty of Agriculture at Alexandria University before pursuing his true calling in the entertainment industry.
Abdel Aziz began his acting career in the late 1960s and quickly gained recognition for his talent. He appeared in numerous films and television series throughout his career, portraying diverse characters across a wide range of genres. He was known for his versatile acting skills, being able to effortlessly switch between comedic and dramatic roles.
Abdel Aziz starred in several successful films, including “The Terrorist” (1975), “Fools Die on Fridays” (1977), “The Embassy in the Building” (1983), and “The Bullet is Still in My Pocket” (1984). He also worked with prominent directors such as Youssef Chahine and Atef El-Tayeb.
In addition to his film work, Abdel Aziz made notable contributions to Egyptian television. He appeared in several popular TV series, including “Al-Zeer Salem” (1986), “Ard El-Nefaq” (1992), and “Raafat El-Haggan” (1991-1993), where he played the iconic role of a detective. Mahmoud Abdel Aziz passed away on November 12, 2016, at the age of 70. His death was a great loss to the Egyptian film and television industry, as he had become one of the most beloved and respected actors in the country.

After a lifetime of captivating performances, Mahmoud had a long list of awards to show for his achievements: He has won Best Actor in movies such as: Kit Kat (1991), El Coptain (The Captain, 1997), Souq Al Motaa (Pleasure Market, 2000) and Al-saher (The Magician, 2001). More recently, he also won a Lifetime Achievement Award during the 2012 Dubai International Film Festival.Best Actor Award at the Alexandria International Film Festival for his role in “The Terrorist” (1975).
Abdel Aziz left behind a significant legacy in Egyptian cinema and television. He was known for his natural acting style, ability to portray complex emotions and his commitment to his craft. His performances resonated with audiences and solidified his place as one of Egypt’s most beloved actors.
