Life and Career

Gustav Stresemann was born on 10 May 1878, in Berlin, Germany. He attended the University of Berlin, where he studied economics, history, and literature. Stresemann entered politics in the early 1900s and was a member of the National Liberal Party. He served as a member of the Reichstag (the German parliament) from 1907 onwards.

Stresemann became the Chancellor of Germany in 1923 and served for a brief period. He is perhaps best known for his role as the Foreign Minister of the Weimar Republic from 1923 until his death in 1929. Stresemann was a key figure in the negotiation and signing of the Locarno Treaties in 1925, which aimed to secure the borders of Western Europe and improve relations between Germany and its neighbors.

He received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1926 for his efforts to reconcile Germany with its former enemies and promote European stability. Gustav Stresemann died on October 3, 1929, at the age of 51. His death marked the end of an era of relative stability in Weimar Germany.
