Union Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, who is in charge of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare and Rural Development, is on a two-day visit to Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Today, he visited several flood-hit areas in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, including Budameru, Prakasham Barrage, and nearby fields along the Krishna River. Shri Chouhan met with farmers and local people affected by the heavy rains, offering support and reassurance. He said that the Central and State Governments are working day and night to bring relief and normalize the situation.
Minister Visits Flood Areas by Boat
Shri Chouhan also visited Jakkampudi, where he took a life boat to inspect the damage caused by the floods. He spoke with officials and the NDRF (National Disaster Response Force) team to get updates about the situation. After that, he stepped into the water and talked to local residents about their problems. He assured them that the Central Government is closely monitoring the situation and is ready to provide all necessary help to support the affected people.
Efforts to Bring Situation Back to Normal
Shri Chouhan noted that such heavy rainfall has not been seen in 50 years. He praised the efforts of Andhra Pradesh’s Chief Minister Shri Chandrababu Naidu and his team for working hard in difficult conditions. Despite the flooding, the government is delivering food, water, and milk to those in need. He also emphasized that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is concerned about the flood situation and is providing guidance. Both the Central and State Governments will work together to help people recover, rebuild damaged areas, and compensate those affected.
Assessing the Damage
Shri Chouhan said the flood has caused serious damage to crops, especially flowers and turmeric. The initial estimate shows that 1.8 lakh hectares of crops have been damaged, and about 2 lakh farmers have been affected. Teams from the NDRF and the Agriculture Department are already assessing the damage, and the government will provide support once the evaluation is complete.
Shri Chouhan to Visit Telangana Next
On the second day of his visit, Shri Chouhan will travel to Khammam in Telangana to inspect the flood damage there. The village has been severely affected by heavy rains, causing major disruption to daily life and farming. Shri Chouhan will meet with local people and farmers, listen to their concerns, and discuss relief efforts with officials.
