International Animation Day was an international observance, which is celebrated every year on 28 October to celebrate the art of animation and recognize the artists, scientists, and technicians.
HISTORY
The day was created in 2002 by International Animated Film Association (ASIFA), an International Animated Film Association, a member of UNESCO, to honor the birth of animation, recognized as the first public performance of projected moving images: Emile Reynaud’s Theatre Optique in Paris, on the 28 October 1892.
Animation has been used in everything from short commercials to full feature-length films and has served as a method of delivering everything from entertainment to information through an accessible medium.
ASIFA International is the oldest organization globally that supports animation and a commitment to the welfare of art, creativity, and the artist.
CELEBRATION
In recent years, International Animation Day is seen in more than 50 countries across the world.
On International Animation Day an event is organized every year to promote the art of animation, and several cultural institutions are also invited to join in by screening animated films, exhibiting artwork, organizing workshops and stills, providing technical demonstrations, and organizing.
ASIFA also commissions an artist to create an original art poster announcing the event each year. It is then adapted for each country in order to guarantee a worldwide view of the event.
