PM remembers Sri Aurobindo on his Jayanti

Marking the Jayanti of Sri Aurobindo today, the Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi has said that Sri Aurobindo “was a brilliant mind, who had a clear vision for our nation. His emphasis on education, intellectual prowess and valour keep inspiring us.”

The Prime Minister tweeted:

“Today is the Jayanti of Sri Aurobindo. He was a brilliant mind, who had a clear vision for our nation. His emphasis on education, intellectual prowess and valour keep inspiring us. Sharing some pictures of my visits to places associated with him in Puducherry and Tamil Nadu.”

“During one of the #MannKiBaat episodes, had also highlighted the greatness of Sri Aurobindo’s thoughts and what they teach us about self-reliance and learning.”

 

Sri Aurobindo (15 August 1872 – 5 December 1950) was an Indian philosopher, yoga guru, maharishi, poet, and Indian nationalist. He was also a journalist, editing newspapers such as Vande Mataram. He joined the Indian movement for independence from British colonial rule, until 1910 was one of its influential leaders, and then became a spiritual reformer, introducing his visions on human progress and spiritual evolution.

His main literary works are The Life Divine, which deals with the philosophical aspect of Integral Yoga; Synthesis of Yoga, which deals with the principles and methods of Integral Yoga; and Savitri: A Legend and a Symbol, an epic poem.
