Mulayam Singh Yadav, an Indian Politician, and former Minister of Defence. The founder of Samajwadi Party. He is presently the MP of Azamgarh constituency.
EARLR LIFE
He was born on 22 November 1939, Uttar Pradesh, India. He completed his B.A. degree in Political Science from Karm Kshetra Post Graduate College in Etawah. Later, did B.T. and M.A. In Political Science from A. K. College in Shikohabad, and B. R. College, Agra University, respectively. At the age 15, he became involved in Politics.
POLITICAL CAREER
In 1967, Mulayam Singh Yadav was first elected as a Member of the Legislative Assembly in Legislative Assembly of Uttar Pradesh.
In 1975, when Indira Gandhi imposed the Emergency. He was arrested and kept in Custody for 19 months. In 1977, after release from custody, He won back his seat in the assembly, and became a state minister. In 1980, he also became the president of Lok Dal in Uttar Pradesh.
In 1982, He elected and served as the leader of the opposition there until 1985. In 1985, elected for lower house assembly seat and lead the position until 1987.
In 1889, He first became Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh.
With the V. P. Singh government at the Centre collapsing in November 1990, He joined hands with Chandra Shekhar and remained chief minister till 1991. In 1991, when congress withdrew their support. Mid-term elections were held in Uttar Pradesh Assembly, where Mulayam Singh Yadav party lost power to the BJP.
In 1992, He founded Samajwadi Party. In 1993, He allied with the Bahujan Samaj Party and became chief minister of UP for the second time. He retains the position till June 1995.
In 1996, He elected for Lok Sabha. The United Front coalition government formed that year, and he joined the government and became the union defence minister.
In 2002, He became the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh third time till 2007. In 2007, the Samajwadi Party lost the state elections with the BSP’s.
In 2012, The Samajwadi Party won, but this time around, Mulayam selected his son, Akhilesh Yadav, to be the chief minister.
