India Fights Spam Calls and Improves Telecom Services with New Regulations

TRAI telecom regulations 2024

TRAI telecom regulations 2024

The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) and the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) are working together to make telecom services in India better and safer. They are taking strong actions to stop spam calls, improve mobile networks, and provide faster data services for all users.

Stopping Spam Calls and Robocalls

To stop annoying spam calls, TRAI has asked telecom companies to disconnect phone numbers used for sending large amounts of spam messages and robocalls. In the past two weeks, over 3.5 lakh spam numbers have been disconnected, and 50 companies that sent these spam calls have been blacklisted. Along with this, 3.5 lakh unused SMS headers and 12 lakh content templates used to send spam have been blocked.

The government has also launched a platform called Sanchar Saathi to fight cyber fraud. Citizens can use this platform to report suspicious calls and messages. So far, more than one crore fake mobile connections have been cut off, and 2.27 lakh mobile phones involved in cybercrimes have been blocked.

Improving Telecom Network Quality

To make sure that people get high-quality telecom services, the government is tightening rules to improve the performance of networks. Starting in October 2024, new benchmarks will be put in place to measure network quality, such as how often calls drop or how long a network stays unavailable. From April 2025, telecom companies will be monitored every month, instead of every three months, to make sure they are improving their services.

Some key improvements include:

These rules aim to ensure a better and more reliable experience for mobile users across India.

Tackling Telemarketers and Spammers

TRAI has also proposed new rules to take immediate action against unregistered telemarketers. If complaints about spammers cross a certain limit, their services will be suspended. This will help reduce unwanted calls and messages even more. TRAI is also working on a system that can detect and act on spammers before they cause trouble for users.

Ensuring Better Telecom Services for All

The DoT and TRAI are committed to making India’s telecom services safer, faster, and more reliable. With these new measures, they aim to stop spam calls, improve mobile networks, and make sure that everyone can enjoy high-speed data and a better telecom experience.

These efforts will help build a stronger telecom infrastructure in India and provide top-quality service to all users, making life easier for millions of people across the country.
