In a move to enhance weather forecasting capabilities, Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh announced that the Government of India is set to install 10 X-Band Doppler Weather Radars (DWRs) across the Northeastern states and Himachal Pradesh’s Lahaul & Spiti District. The radars, which will be strategically placed in Assam, Mizoram, Nagaland, Manipur, and Arunachal Pradesh, aim to improve the region’s ability to monitor and respond to weather-related events.
Dr. Singh highlighted the government’s dedication to disaster preparedness, noting that the new radar installations will bolster weather prediction accuracy, especially in the Himalayan region, which is prone to sudden and severe weather changes. The initiative is part of a larger effort by India to strengthen its meteorological infrastructure, ultimately contributing to better disaster management and safeguarding lives and property during extreme weather events.
